The Trentino was historically part of the County of Tyrol, so I still think "Giro del Tirolo/Tirol-Rundfahrt" would cover all bases adequately enough.

I'd personally go for the Italian name then, German sounds ugly.

I wonder how Omloop het Nieuwsblad sounds to foreigners lol. I quite like the name.

To be fair to the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race name ... it's so stupid it's actually memorable. I can't tell one Trofeo di Luguileai from the next but Cadels race is instantly recognizable (which is important for the 2nd and 3rd tier one day races.)

"Omloop" looks super silly to me but I recognize its elements from other Germanic languages so it's mostly fine. "Het Nieuwsblad" is awesome, but obviously minus points for being a sponsor name (still, newspapers get a bit of a pass due to how traditional they are in this sport).

edit: "Het Volk" was better obvs

They do ride for a bit on the Great Ocean Road, so it does make some sense. However adding the name before makes me think of memorial races or Tour de Trump.

Yea I'm not a fan of adding peoples names to things, seems rather egotistical (even if its not.) The Great Ocean Road Race would actually be a cool name.

Also I never had a problem with names like Liege-Bastogne-Liege until you do something similar with your native language and realize how *** the London-Birmingham-London sounds.

It's Landa's last year of contract, surprised he does not show anything.
When you go from finishing 3rd in the Giro due to dramatic mountain performances to being told you'll be domestiquing at the same race for Geraint freaking Thomas, that does tend to have an effect on your confidence.
Yep, most people don't fancy Thomas that much myself included (I think mostly due to the fact that cycling fans realise Thomas' biggest strength lies elsewhere), but I think we need to be fair.. Landa has absolutely no one to blame other than himself. He signed the contract himself, he blew the 2016 season himself (for the most part), he hasn't delivered in 2017 yet. Thats none of Thomas' fault. Even if he has been told its all for Thomas - which I doubt - thats still not a reason not to be motivated. Its contract year and Landa is no scrub, he will obviously go into the Giro in a protected role.

Train hard, do the right thing and let the road and the mountains be the judge instead. That said, he wasn't horrible today.

Still talking about race names, GP Bob Jungels seems funny to me, since the guy was a junior like half a decade ago and he still isn't 25 years old.

If they wanted to honour a legend of their country they could have went with GP Charly Gaul or GP Frank Schleck or GP Baby Andy.

But it's not any longer a part of the county, no? And keeping Trentino explicitly in the name should help keep the race's identity/heritage.

Paris-Roubaix will always be a Flemish race!

Indeed. He was supposed to be the sole leader for this race- even he falters, he should have given support, but -hey - it is a British team whose priority above anything & everything is "UK riders". What a pity he wasted 2 years with them, when he was peaking.

BTW - great win by Scarponi. :)

Only since 1803, then no longer durning the Napoleonic Wars, then once again from 1815 until the end of WWI
Before that it was an indipented Hochstift ( aterritory of secular authority held by bishops) inside the Holy Roman Empire since the 11th century.

The riders will probably have to face strong snowfall on the Brenner/Brennero, could be rather nasty.
It's only a transitional stage/breakaway stage, so don't be surprised if the stage is shortened, they could start in Sterzing/Vipiteno, the weather should be less extrem on the southern side of the Brenner.
I've seen snowstorms on the Brenner in June, July and August before, something like that can always happen in the mountains.

That second last climb looks nasty, I hope it will be more than just a transitional stage...

Yes, the first 3.1km of St. Justina are over 10% steep, nasty stuff.
The problem is the final clim, it's mosty a slightly uphill drag race.
It's this climb until Innervillgraten, only the start of the climb is steep, the rest is too easy to make a difference.

With a hard stage and a proper MTF on the next days I don't think that we'll see too many long range attacks.

Oh, she passed away some time ago. I keep one trunk with her personal stuff.

I remember how Astana treated Landa in comparison to Aru. He has always had uphill :)
Giro d'Trentino winning was his only sucess last year and this year Sky won't give him a chance even in GdT because of Geraint.

I really would like to be wrong. I like the guy.
