I seem to recall that USA Pro Cycling Challenge had a different rule. In case of equal time, the leader was the guy who finished higher on the last stage.
Pinot was 6 secs behind and he got 6 secs bonus for finishing 2nd. So they're tied on time.markene2 said:

Really? I didn't think a race organiser was entitled to just make up their own rules. I thought (at least these tie breaking) rules were UCI regulated.

Yes they are trying. Will be a hard day if Rodengo can stay in the race. Forecast states -3 degrees and snow.

But I'm checking things now and he and it looks that they were tied on average finishing position so that doesn't prove it was the case

they are (UCI Road Racing rules 2.6.015):
Where two or more riders make the same time in the general individual time placings, the fractions of a second registered
during individual time trials (including the prologue) shall be added back into the total time to decide the order. If the result is still tied or if there are no individual time trial stages the placings obtained in each stage, except team time trial stages,
shall be added and, as a last resort, the place obtained in the last stage ridden shall be taken into consideration

I wasn't able to be at the finish line (I had to do a bit of work), but i was there when they rode past my hometown.
Of course Pippo was just chilling at the back of the bunch.
It was a pretty cold day (around 5 °C and no sunshine down in the valley) and the cold wind made it even worse, but we're in the mountains and things like that can always happen, sometimes even durning summer.
Tomorrow I'll be there at the start, I'll try to talk to a few of the riders.
Of course Pippo was just chilling at the back of the bunch.

Still a hard day and the cold and rather nasty weather could wear the riders down. Spilak would probably love this race.
The uncategorised climb before the false flat and the feed zone is 5km at 6,6% with 2km at 8% and the first climb of the day to Terenten/Terento is also 8.5km at 5.5%, nothing special, but a decent first climb of the day.

Please, don't do that! The race kinda needs the riders. Also... kidnapping people is kinda illegal.
Right, back to the race, or rather, the weather talk. Nygaard put it pretty well during the prolonged "pre-coverage" studio: If you wanna get up in the Alps in April, you gotta have a plan B.
Maybe, if they're really lucky, the snowfall will only be on the side of the climbs they're getting up, the... climbing side, while the descents are clear.

I don't know were all the talk about the snowfall comes from, we should get a strong, cold north wind (Nordföhn) , so snowfall shouldn't be a problem, if there's any it's probably just going to be a few sparse snowflakes, the weather should be much worse on the nothern side of the Brenner/Brennero (If the weather is bad on the northern side you get a cold noth wind south of the pass that just blows most of the precipitations away, if the weather is bad on the southern side you get a warm south wind in the north that does that same and you get high temperatures).
Edit: today the strong wind was also a big problem for the helicopters, that's one of the reasons for the poor TV coverage.

The lead out for Pinot was one ugly thing that no cycling school will ever use as material. It wasn't the plan. And then Thibaut didn't see Dennis on his left until it was way too late. Still, I'm super happy that Pinot didn't just sit for a same time result. He went for the win, he looks strong. We'll see what happens tomorrow.
