This ride tells us a lot, but not everything. Some riders have problems dealing with rain and cold.

That is a good result. I'm pretty sure he will improve during the race. His competitors better drop him in the first two weeks before he regains full power.

His first race back, a GT at that, and he is going to peak in the third week? After already having won 5 stages by that point? ...

He's wishing Remco to do well, with a "break a leg".

With the weather this doesn't tell too much about general form, but surely:
Almeida out
Bernal looking very good for now
very good result for the skinny guys Vlasov and Carthy, Bardet not too bad, too
Evenepoel solid
Buchmann out of contention, even if his form might improve
Buchmann hates this kind of weather and has a history of underperforming when it's cold and rainy (not racing before the Giro probably wasn't that smart either...). He could still bounce back in the high mountains.

Really nice stage. Super happy for De Marchi

Very interesting that Yates wasn't in the front group. Was it a classic case of a Yates brother riding too far down the pack? Hedging bets towards the latter stages?

Bernal looked super which is a delight. Strong from Carthy too continuing to cement his place as a top grand tour climber.

a good shuffle with lots of possibilities :)

Absolutely. All GC riders who disappointed today may come back with a vengeance during the next few weeks. All, besides Almeida because he'll have to obey team orders from now on.
