This GT imo can't really 'prove' that Evenepoel can't be a good GC rider anyway because of his age and the circumstances. Even if he cracks completely somewhere I'm willing to give him at least one more shot before trying to make that conclusion.

Remco and Yates the biggest disappointments of the day. But I'd say it's more worrisome for Yates to not be up there than for Evenepoel.

Yes Moscon climbing better than so many GC leaders ??????
Remember how strong he was on the short, steep climbs when he worked for Froome in that Vuelta? He was also 13th on the Angliru as a domestique that year.
The bigger surprise for me is Bettiol being up there in the Remco-Yates group.

It's a good result, but not great for Evenepoel. I don't think there's a way to bend this into him being the main favorite for the GC.

Yeah, no, I agree. Favourite clearly is Bernal now, Vlasov also looks good and Landa, And I wouldn't write off Yates yet, it was a somewhat strange day. Then maybe Evenepoel. That would be my take for now.

De Marchi's English is surprisingly good for an Italian
He rode at BMC and CCC for lots of years.
In nowadays generation there are more Italians with a decent level of English. Viviani was already rather good at Liquigas/Canondale, and obviously improved at Sky.

If per chance you happen to read this comment, I feel for you. I was hoping you'd pull it off and take the stage win; but nevertheless, that was one hell of a ride. Bravo.

Good attack from Landa. At least to see something in GC. Remco was surprising strong. This man has no limits. Almeida is now behind, the only man for GC. Carthy very strong, he is very good in the big climbs and not bad in ITT, so, he is a serious candidate for this Giro. I am with Landa, but he will have lot of rivals.

Carthy has been 3th at the Vuelta. He has been very strong so far, so...he counts at least like those people. Yates loses 11 seconds in a dat with lot of rain.. he is for sure not out....that has no sense. Even almeida could be again on GC with a break...you never knows..But I think he is no so styrong in the moiuntains as other people. This Giro has better level than last one

I was so hoping he'd win! I might be slightly biased here, but I also just generally loves it when a domestique goes and naps a big win.

Everyone else in the GC: Moving up, or down, like crazy.

Vlasov: I like 7th. 7th is a good placing!

We probably shouldn't make too many assesements based on this stage alone. Some riders might have been more affected by the weather than others, and if they only lost 11-44 seconds it could have been worse. We should have a clearer picture after Thursday's stage. Hindley wasn't a world-beater in the beginning last year's Giro, but he obviously wasn't a team leader at that point either.

Also probably the only time that you'll see Bettiol loosing one place on the gc while arriving in the same group as Remco and Yates on a MTF.

It looked like he was descending a little bit better than Taaramäe, so dropping him before the climb would perhaps have been his only chance. But he might just have ended up being a great dom for him instead, like De Marchi was for Dombrowski.

Important to remember, week 1 of Giro 2020 nobody was considering Hindley and TGH favourites. They weren't protagonists on Etna. Today is not a GC write off for those in Buchmann group.
yeah but you see now how bad some riders do in bad conditions, it is expected the rain will keep on coming so it says a lot imo.
