Israel have three decent climbers here, would make sense for them to try and get rid of the likes of Gaviria on this climb. Finale does have some little kickers though - the main ones are 1.1k at 5.7% at 16k to go and 500m at 7.3% at 10k to go - so that does make it a bit easier to make moves there.

Presumably after 2 hours of flat those little kickers aren't enough to drop Gaviria.

I think when people talk about pretty climbing styles, we don't mention Cavendish enough. The true Pieter Weening style of big ring climbing.

Weening is the anti Klöden, so cannot be beautiful.

Klöden definitely won the style competition.

Not sure it'd be worth Pinot being in today's break anyway. Theres only one climb and not much of a shot of the stage in that group. Might as well save your legs for tomorrow or Tuesday

It is a lot of points, and no one would have forced him to stay in the break after the climb. Considering Mayrhofer got points at the top, this can't have been a hard pace overall.

Ineos, always there to ruin my (cycling fan) day!

The strategy of FDJ at this Giro is not clear to me. Seems like he's going for the mountains jersey, a top10 and a stage at the same time. But since he doesn't have the level anymore/or the others just got better that might be too much and he risks being left with nothing.
Bruno Armirail might win this Giro, though. Just needs a few more cancellations.

Think he said himself that the priority is a stage and the mountain jersey or a GC placing are secondary. If he's concentrating on a stage, he should be looking at tomorrow and then Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. He'll probably secure mountains in that anyway as I can see Bais taking more points than him in the 3 big stages next week.

Should Ineos give the Maglia Rosa to Armirail today? It would seem to be the most sensible option because Bruno doesn‘t stand a chance in the GC.
