So the stage five results of the UAE Tour is looking strong form - Pogacar who was second went on to win UAE Tour and TA, Yates who was third won today at Catalunya and is the one to beat for GC, Vingegaard who won that UAE Stage then backs up today in Coppa Bartoli and is in the leaders, while Schultz who was 6th in that UAE stage, finished 3rd in todays stage of Coppa Bartoli and is third in GC.

Florian Stork will win the Tour.

I was only partly serious. But he definitely could. The point was that he suffered from the TT being a TTT and would otherwise have been in the mix for the overall win.
Well, that’s definitely a reasonable take. He’s not the only one of the contenders who would have preferred an itt though, and I feel like you might be overrating Van Wilder’s tt ability based on potential and not outright ability. I know that he was 3rd at the Euros last year which was very inpressive, but he hasnt really established himself as such a prolific tt’er yet as you’re making it seem. Might come with time.

I'm not just basing that on his bronze medal at the EU ITT. Also his Algarve ITT was excellent if you look at the time he lost to known specialists. He lost 2 seconds on Almeida, 6 seconds on Leknessund, 7 seconds on Wellens, 12 seconds on Thomas... while it was his first pro race and he was only 19. In the juniors only you-know-who was consistently better. At the junior WCC he was "only" 7th because they penalized him because the communication with the car wasn't working, and since he didn't get any updates about his time or pace, the coach at one point drove next to him to shout intermediate times, for which they docked him 20 seconds.

Exactly how was Vansevenant THE favourite for this race? There are plenty of young, promising riders at the startlist. Of course he is/was one of the top contenders but he isnt exactly head and shoulders above this field.
Maybe a bit of misfrasing on my part: ONE of the favorites. He was definitely one of the maybe 5 top candidates for the stage, and seing him race so far this season he definitely should've had the kick to win in the end.

Watching the highlights it was a mega impressive ride by Ayuso. Riding away with Vansevenant, who is in excellent shape, and then matching three or so accelerations of him in the first part of the climb. Great stuff.
Yeah, it was a pleasure to watch.

Vingegaard played it cool in the final, Sosa was a bit impatient attacking before the u-turn.
I think the race is very open. Jumbo doesn't have a particularly strong team here, while Ineos and DQS have multiple options and they will attack a lot. All stages are potentially interesting.

DQT have multiple options? They're only 5 strong and Cavendish isn't going to attack in the mountains. Honoré is a nice rider but i don't think he can win here.

Brian Holm, who is the DQS DS for the race, said to Danish media after the TTT, that they were thinking about letting Honoré and Vansevenant lose time and go stage hunting instead of finishing 8th or 9th in the GC. Vansevenant ended up riding for the stage win yesterday and Honoré finished in 13th place, so for now they haven't opted for that plan.

Carpegna has been cut from today's stage because there's still ice on the road after it snowed a few days ago, so the descent would have been really dangerous.

Have they replaced it with a different climb or is it going to be a shortened stage?

They're taking the pass below Cippo Di Carpegna, stage is shorter by about 8k.

Considering the field and the improvement he showed early in the season I wouldn't underestimate Honore.
There were rumors coming out of DQS camp about Honore being the leader for this race, which would also explain why Vansevenant attacked early yesterday.

That said, he didn't look ad good as I thought he would in yesterday's final so perhaps you're right.

I guess from red to green:

EDIT: After finding out you can no longer paint on imgur uploads, it took me some time to make this masterpiece in paint (touchpad <3). Sorry for being slow AF.

I fully enjoyed the creative value of it.

A shame that the steepest part of the climb is the same as the average gradient of Monte Carpegna, but it obviously wasn't a given, that anyone would had drilled it from 100ks out anyway.

That's ok, i hadn't heard of those rumours. So if that's true that would certainly paint a different picture.
