Im all in favour of strike action. Calling a one day no-posting strike. Of course only 10% of people would stick to it, and half of those would form a virtual picket line going in threads and posting telling people not to post. :D
Lemme know what day it is, so I can take it off too. ;)

I actually made a Cyclingnews forum twitter group just to let you all know.

On the strike action, we could call ourselves "Unoccupy Cyclingnews Forum" :D.

You'd think that a company would know not to have strip and nude in the same ad. While you're at it, have anal sex and porn in the same ad. At least I'll get some enjoyment while in trouble.
Thank you CN, your ads have caused some nice problems in training. Last time I'm logging in here.

AS a compromise dear Krebs, because you are truly one of the rocks upon which this place is built, how about this: postpone your 'industrial action' at least until such time as we finally receive an official reply from the powers that be? Please?

I doubt you will get any official reply

As soon as management here either gives a weak response or no response at all, why don't we all decamp to some forum of our own making? Let me know if you need volunteers.
I am also willing to take, at least a temporary, position as a moderator, if a mass exodus would occur

Given your more intimate knowledge about how the powers that be work around here, do you think we can expect some unofficial 'official' input relayed by one of the existing mods/admins? Or, do you believe that they will simply ignore what's going on here in the hope that it will fizzle out and go away?

I think this is most likely. But do understand that all I am saying is speculation, it is well possible we will get official input.

It might sound strange because I don't post much,
but I really like this community.
Huge thanks to TSF, Krebs and everyone who takes care of this sh!t now.

Moving can be a good thing.
It won't be exactly the same, then? True. It could be even better.

This is probably my last login until a solution is found
- those who I'm in touch with have my address.
All others I hope to see at a new place.

I don't tweet, so please relay my thanks to Krebs and tell him the movement is growing. Can you also ask him to read my suggestion on the previous page and consider coming back and doing his thing, if only temporarily? Thanks.

The logistics of such a move are being looked at. I am now fully up to date on smf forums, installation and management of them.

I have a new server from next weekend (21st) that would more than be able to handle such a forum.

Domain names are ten a penny, and with the launch of new extensions such as .me etc, things like cyclingforums.me veloforums.me etc become available.

the only difficulaties I would envisage would be ownership and control. The owner would obviously need to recoup their server costs etc in some way, probably through advertising. There would also be the issue of rules and administration but that would be something the members could decide I guess. Probably only work if any such forum was run by a moderation team and not the owner. The other option is approach an existing website to include a forum, but how many would take the risk of having this place on their name.. (which credit to cn they do despite the controversy it sometimes entails)

of course the fact they we are able to openly discuss leaving without being told not to or without a response from Future on the advertising issue says a lot. a) they dont think it would happen and/or b) they dont give a monkeys..

The only problem I envision with an organized "strike" is if it happens to coincide with the CAS decision on Contador or indictments against LA. :D

Everyone would be monitoring the forum to see who would be the first to break radio silence. :p

I'm wondering now if the targetting of the ads is poor, or whether this is genuinely what CN forum readers are into, as a whole.

There have been other contentious issues where the mods/admins were left largely in the dark. Daniel Benson was for the most part a ghost in the staff room as well as the general forum, although he has more frequent contact with Susan. To be fair, this ad stuff is not really Daniel's domain, it's just that he is/was the CN employee who looked after the forum. I can't speak to this issue, but from the tone and content of FTP's prior email/post my best guess is that the mods have once again been left in the dark even though they will naturally be used as lightening rods. I wouldn't call what they are doing 'ignoring' the issue, it is something that is beyond their control and I'm guessing was done without consultation or so much as a 'heads up'. If there is 'official' input I am sure they will get it out to us.

Edit: Maybe I read that wrong and you meant that Future Pub might ignore the issue and hope it fizzles out. Yeah, they might. They've played this one pretty stupidly so I would not be surprised if they stayed on that track.

That's what I meant. I'm fully aware that the mods are also in the dark.

A couple of observations and questions, Dim - how do we get the word out to enough posters to make this worthwhile? No one will notice if there's only 5-10 of us not posting! I suggest that everyone willing to take part should adopt the date avatar.

Finally, I don't think simply not posting will have any substantial impact. What's needed is that a significantly large number of regular posters simply does not go to the forum at all on that day. All of us looking in and reading still provides hits.

You know... I'm kinda seeing a bit of a practical problem with this boycutting.

January 16th from whose PoV?
