Tbf we saw bigger gaps between Evans and Andy on both of the hill sprints in 2011 than we saw in the pyrenees:eek:

Similar the year before between Andy and Contador.

Uphil sprints can definitely create bigger gaps than mountains, recent history has proven that, that's what Contador was referring to. I don't get why you gotta  that comment?

I alread said this once to you, you should be grateful that Contador rides the giro. Now people will actually watch it cause recent editions have been absolutely terrible.

I don't think people were waiting for uran vs aru

I always want to watch a competive GT. 2015 Giro doesn't cut it. We'll gladly watch a leveled field with Uran and co.

I'm not sure why I should be grateful about that, considering that if he comes in full shape will blast the field, while if he comes in not good shape he'll race conservatively and win by 1 km attacks and the ITT.

Anyway no, uphill sprints cannot create bigger gaps than real mountains can. Recent history has not proven anything of the sort.

I think it is very likely we'll see bigger gaps between Contador and Froome on the explosive finishes than in the mountains.

Quintana and Nibali is another story, Contador is more explosive than them but I believe they will not be near AC and CF in the high mountains

The journo writes some damn good bull**** there... like listing Indurain between the gc guys who never cared about other races but the tdf, or like hinting that the 60 km ITT will not favour AC... And then AC nails it stating that in the tdf the uphill sprints of Huy and Bretagne could make more gaps than the big mountains  and that the 2011 Giro was maybe one of the hardest routes in history (clear example of a professional who knows **** about his own sport).

Rest assured, he also said reasonable and nice things.

EDIT: Oh, and apparently the Giro wasn't televised in Spain in the 90's. Is that true? Really? Hard to believe, with Indurain in contention...

If you don't mind I prefer to trust a professional cyclist on this rather than an anonymous poster on the internet.

you prefer to trust him about what? If you mean about the Giro '90 being televised or not, I wasn't sarcastic, I genuinely do not know. I just find it odd.

About everything he said in that article.

Yes, the 2011 Giro wasn't the hardest ever, not even one of the hardest, but it was damn hard for recent times.

Yes, in the hilly sprints he can take more time on Froome than on all mountain stages combined.

I bet he doesn't even know if the 1990 Giro was televized in Spain. (Obviously he was talking about 1998.)

LOL. You're so outdated. Nibali has left the door open to ride the Giro. Talking about running away, I know a couple of guys who quit the TdF this year and didn't finish with Lo Squalo. Just sayin'.

Yeah, they "ran away" with broken bones. Such pussies!

And Nibali has not left the door open, he's said multiple times Aru will be the leader at the Giro and he will focus on the TDF.

so you admit that the thing about the Giro 2011 was bull****, and that he probably doesn't even know what he's talking about when he tells about the Giro in Spanish TV... but "you prefer to trust him on everything he said". Not sure I get the logic.

Anyway, barring the last Vuelta, Froome's uphill sprints looked pretty good to me.

And he was talking about "Pantani in the Giro", so not only 1998. And when someone mentions Pantani in the Giro the first thing that comes to mind is 1994 just as 1998 (not to mention 1999...)

FFS.... they were discussing Pantani's Giro-Tour double. Come on dude.

And he says in 1998 the Giro was not broadcast on Spanish TV.

Yes saying that the 2011 Giro was one of the hardest routes ever was a hyperbole.

Sheesh.

You can trust AC as much as you want, but you may as well consider trusting me more than you when it comes to Italian text comprehension, would you?

He cites the 1998 double when he speaks about his project for 2015. Then he says that in Spain they couldn't see Pantani on TV at the Giro, and all he knows about him comes from the Tour, Alps and Pyrenees.

Yes, because he only started following cycling in 1997/1998:rolleyes:

Mmh, so you finally agree that Nibali is number one? After all a professional cyclist named Alberto Contador had this to say:
Nibali ha vinto il Tour e per questo è il numero uno in questo momento. Chi vince ha sempre ragione.

He's also probably gonna say that it will be really hard to beat Uran in the Giro (or Aru, or Pozzovivo or another generic top 10 finisher). Then, when he demolishes everyone over the Mortirolo, he'll claim it's not over yet, even though he's got 5 minutes on second place (or something close to that)

See a pattern?

I don't want him to ride it. I doubt he will ride it, it'd be stupid to do it if he wants to have a fair chance of winning the Tour again.

Meh, cineteq already has a running avatar bet on Contador not starting the Giro
True. But I will only lose the bet if Contador does the GT double. :D
