Credit to Knaven - the field has broken up into many groups over the climbs.

Of course the wet and cool weather also helped

It reads like it would be a good stage to have live pictures for.

Swift much better than Apollonio for the moment...
Swift is more experienced and a much better climber but I think Apollonio is going to be faster than him pretty soon, if he isn't already.

11 man break ahead 2.50 or so with 30k to go.

Nicki Sörensen(SBS)
Geraint Thomas (SKY)
Adriano Malori (LAM)
Johannes Fröhlinger (SKS)
Daniel Westmattelmann(TRS)
Pieter Serry(TSV)
Michael Albasini(THR)
Wesley Sulzberger (FDJ)
Andreas Klier(GRM)
Dirk Müller (TSP)

should also be Pinot (FDJ) I would think
Guess it'll be between Thomas and Malori for GC from there

Edit: 2.32 is the latest gap

A 10 man breakaway 2:30 ahead including Geraint Thomas, Malori and Albasini. Will probably stay away since very few will be interested in chasing.

Good point, didn't notice they don't have anyone in the breakaway. But is their team strong enough to pull this one back?

Thomas the Tank Engine has messed up one winnable sprint from a break already this year, I hope he gets it right today.

Aidis Kruopis.... very impressive victory.

I think we discussed him a few months ago, and those unenlightened people exclaimed "Who???"

Now they know.
