I thought he couldn't attack on climbs anymore... Given this was not his ideal sort of climb that was an impressive display of power.

why would you think that?

I wasn't thinking that exactly although did wonder as everyone seemed to be saying that in the tour as he didn't drop everyone with an attack like in previous tours. Looks like he still has it :D
he done one major attack in Le tour on the Col d'Izoard, the rest was a pacing effort...Just my take on it

Yes it looked like that to me too although I did wonder if father time was catching up with him. It looks like he and Sky have really planned this season well for the double, hopefully.

Best cyclist ever! Looked like it today, at least.

So it looks like he'll win by 5 minutes - maybe by 10, if things break his way?

He is one hell of an Athlete.

Seen some say Froome chucked everything at Bertie and couldn't drop him, I hope Bertie buys the motorbike driver a beer

I doubt there's much to gain from drafting on 15% gradients.
I'd be more upset about the pushes he got from fans if I were you!

I'm not upset, just saying, hope Bertie gets that driver a beer ;)
contador was dropped and clawing his way back after the steepest section on xorret, the last 500 meters had quite a moderate gradient around 5-7%.
Which %5-7? The last 500 m was %10,5.

well, sorry I might be mistaken, but either way your profile is not detailed. at least when the cameraman showed bertie closing the gap, I took notice both boys had been riding very fast about 20km/h, I don't think that was the speed reachable at 10% sections after such a nasty climb. just my few cents.

Amazing output from Froome today. Treat to watch.

Yeah. The moment he attacked and progressively opened the gap to Contador was remarkable.
Afterwards not so much as Chaves kept the distance constant. We are in no position to argue with the GPS but it didn't look like a 4 second gap to me.

Agree. A delight for the eyes.
Chaves has been hit twice times. The final attack at 200m crushed him

Nobody could follow the motor today! :)
Sending a message to the pretenders
that he is getting stronger each day.
Well, at least you're acknowledging it too.
:surprised:
This seems awfully close to a doping discussion in the PRR, where it's strictly prohibited....
Come on, it was an open goal. I've never done it before and won't again, but allow this one time please :)

I haven't deleted anything or sent out any warnings other than the pleasant reminder that I posted in the thread. My hope is that it ends there. :)

A photo doesn't prove Contador drafting behind a motorbike. Show us the video if you want to show Contador in a negative light.
Who's showing Bertie In a negative light? I'm just saying hope he buys the guy a beer, a wee bit obsessed with me now
So why don't you tell why you hope he buys him a beer? ;)

It is amazing how he doesnt stop his attacks even with people on his wheels, who are doing about 10 % effort than him and even that way he drop those people finally.

It is not a big amount of time, but a big amount of superiority. For an explosive rider to follow people and put them 10 second in 200 hard meters means they are at a similar level than the rest, but in this case is 2 point above.

Anyway today was a flat stage on the wind. On the hard mountains stages Chaves could be stronger than Froome.

There is no way Contador is too close to that Moto !

Froome must go for a Giro at some point, even if it means sacrificing a Tour. Realistic that he is probably the only man that could do Giro/Tour double.

Too old( and late) for giro-tour unfortunately . He would make the same mistake of 2015 contador.
This kind of challenge is to be done when you're at the top. Unfortunately both have missed the oppurtunity

He has way more ability to do it than Contador. But would have to do it sooner rather than later. Contador did an ok show of it in 2015. He's about to do the Tour/Vuelta double and there's no way Contador could have managed that in recent years. Up to him to challenge himself.

Don't matter too much anyway because Tour trumps a Giro anyday !

I think it would be good for his career to complete his set of Grand Tours, but of course he'll first have to win this Vuelta. Maybe he'll try in two years, when he has 5 Tours and is on level with the other greats and he's maybe getting past his best. Then a Giro might be more doable. I certainly do hope he'll try to win the Giro at some point.
