Critérium du Dauphiné 2012; Stage 6: Saint-Alban-Leysse → Morzine (167km)

Although it looked imperial by Sky, we still have to remember that guys like Weening and Kiryienka survived in the front group, which leads to believe that part of the answer wasn't as much Sky dominance as it was lack of in-form, motivated contenders. I'm sure noone truly believes Weening or Vasil will contend for overall top10 placings in the Tour?

Menchov,Nibali et.all. disappointed and made the EBH/Porte climbing train look superior.

I liked it how Evans tried to take the initiative on the descent. He is riding much more aggressively, which is a joy to watch.

My goodness just came home, How was cadel on the climb average, good or suffering as expected?
Congrats to sky. But I think when the RSNT put the hammer down on the climb in le tour. And we get to see the cream of the crop. Only froome will be left.
Froome is the real deal.

I must try this method.
Perhaps we can all become as insightful as you, but not watching any of the actual race.

My tinny hopes are lying with Mr. Schleck, Sr. Cobo and Rolland. I'll be rooting for Nibali, Menchov, Gesink. Please break the damn Sky train and make Wiggins put the nose on the wind.

[What's up with that air style Brad? :D]

I thought it was a bit sad today. What was he trying to do? He didn't ride for the GC, nor for the stage win. Some random risks three weeks before the Tour. Better than nothing, agreed, but it looked a bit desperate.

Wrong and wrong. He was trying for the stage and he wanted to be on the GC podium.

Actually after seeing the names in that group.
It was not really surprising that there were 4 sky riders there.
The others obviously haven't reached their peak yet.

What confuses me, is that everyone knows Cadel and Nibali easily took 1 minute on Wiggins in 3km of descent yesterday, when Wiggins was definitely trying his hardest.

And yet today when Cadel was giving it full gas, and Sky were riding down in team formation, he only took 8 seconds in 5km?

Levi Leipheimer (then riding for Gerolsteiner): "They were unbelievable. At the top of the penultimate climb I counted 21 riders in the [lead] group, with seven Postals in front. I've never seen anything like it".

Sound familiar? ;)

But the pace was high. Someone posted previous times of the joux plane in this thread - therefore it suggests Weening has the form.

Evans seems to me like he is riding just to race. And he is very relaxed about it.
Maybe few years back he wouldn't have done so.

Again, not USP at all, only one GC guy who destroyed the field everywhere (except in 2003), as for Gewiss just a bunch of average druggies who never won a major race.

There you have three very talented guys who could be leaders anywhere exactly like La Vie Claire.

Exactement - Criterium International, P-N, Fleche, LBL, Giro overall, Tour stages are nothing like a big race, like Philly Int.

USP did exactly what UKP did today; sprinters shredding the field on HC climb, multiple teammates present and keeping pace too high for other GC men to attack

Nice deflection to smear Lemond, too

was the part where cadel attacked technical??
If it was not that could explain why.

Nice one, Quintana

Boring race otherwise thanks to UKPS-Ballan...crappy days are here again; EBH is the new Hincapie.
Except that EBH has always been a good climber? When Stapleton tested him when he was 18 y.o he said that EBH was the most talented cyclist he had ever seen and that he would be a future TDF winner. Obviously that won't be the case, but it's not exactly surprising that a guy of his talent can do damage to the peloton on the lower slopes of a HC climb. You seem to suggest that EBH, like Hincapie, is a classics rider who is transformed into a climber. Actually it's more the other way around - he's trying to be a classic's rider, but he's way more suited to stage racing.

Also EBH is the only cyclist on Sky who didn't improve this year, he's been climbing approximately just as well since he came to Sky. He did exactly this last year too (only more impressive), and in 2010 dauphine he won a mountain/hilly stage solo after just returning from injury.

I think Evans was just trying out some tactics to see if they'll be viable come July.

Of course Weening was good. But do we all believe this was a supersonic 6.5W/Kilo climb like all the Lance comparison nonsense?

If it was the Australian Institute of Sport has really earnt its reputation.
It was a 6.0 W/kg climb, apparently. Which is damn good for 4 riders of the same team to be able to put out.

Really? The fatigue must have hampered his mental faculties in that case, because it was obvious before his last attack that he couldn't win the stage any more, and couldn't gain 24 seconds on Rogers either (and why would you take risks before the Tour to finish seconds instead of third in the Dauphiné, something nobody will remember in a week).
