this is the difference between hilly classics like and cobbled classics. in cobbled classics you need to be the smartest to win. in hilly you just need to be the strongest

Exactly.

That's why these riders are better imo. The only exceptions are Nibali and Contador.

On paper Hagen is the fastest here but he looks the weakest of the five. Both Teunissen and Pedersen are fast as well, but they are on unknown territory. Vanmarcke looks strong and sprints well after a hard race. Lampaert I have no idea about, but I would guess that he's normally the slowest of the five.

Agree for the most part. I would add that there is also more of a luck factor in the cobbled classics. The randomness is part of what makes them more fun to watch.

Agree with all this, I think Vanmarcke will take it. Either by a late attack or in the sprint.

The one advantage Lampaert has got is he could stop working at some point, with strong riders behind, and try to time a late attack.

He has a decent speed.

Is Vanmarcke the best classic rider in the world without the sprint?
He needs to attack now...
The depressing results of Sep:
2nd Paris - Roubaix ('13)
2x 2nd Gent - Wevelgem in Flanders Fields ('16, '10)
2x 3rd Ronde van Vlaanderen / Tour des Flandres ('16, '14)
2x 3rd Omloop Het Nieuwsblad Elite ('18, '17)
2x 4th Paris - Roubaix ('16, '

Do less for once, Sep!

Would take the strongest any day over the smartest

Kwiatkowski has a better palmares than most cyclists in the peloton and he has never been the strongest in a big race he won. Kudos to him.

Just looking from QS's perspective statistically it would appear better to have 3 options from 13 than 1 from 5. I always find these situations a little odd.

Terpstra and Stybar should've done more to stop anyone coming across to Lamp/Sep when it was just those two,
