Firstly- I should acknowledge that your site helped confirm some of the stuf I had found earlier, an excellent resource.

You are correct in your summary, the Italian legal system makes CAS look quick - although I'd be cautious in saying Bartalucci knew about Lelarge.

However again it begs the question why Sky changed from having good Docs like Palfreeman & Hulze who have unblemished records to Docs with dodgy histories.

Thanks, Doc. Having been away from CN and the Clinic for a long time, I must also thank you guys for clueing me in on Jans Koerts, whose confession I had known nothing about until yesterday despite Clinic mentions going as far back as 2010. :p

The thing with the docs is pretty strange. I had wondered if it was due to pressure from more experienced riders and/or DSes, several of whom were connected to Rabobank and Cervélo at the material times, keen to have docs that come entre nous recommended, or that they already know and trust.

Not necessarily because of dodgy practices, turning a blind eye or even assisting with haematocrit levels, but if only because these are "stand up", discreet guys with whom they can share (and deal with) their problems. We tend to think of dodgy doctors, but they are still also doctor doctors, with patient confidentiality and a diploma and a stethoscope.

I guess this feeling came from the Matt White --> Trent Lowe --> Del Moral thing. How could somebody from a team like Garmin-Cervélo recommend a doc like Del Moral with his backstory? And the only justification that came to me was the relationship which I will ingenuously call the 'special handshake', the possibility that, away from the harsh black and white headlines of right and wrong, this was a doctor who folks knew could help a guy out.

It is obvious. Those doctors couldn't produce the results JamesMurdoch/TeamSky needed.

Tried it the clean way didn't work so now try it the standard pro cycling dirty doctor way.

+1 Bingo!

The clock was ticking and no pay back for Murdoch - last year a total squib. Crossroads time for Team Sky (win or no more sponsorship) and they made the deal. Murdoch cares not one iota about cycling and those who read the clinic aint the target audience. So, smoke, mirrors and deflection for the tiny minority who might question and with the media largely under their control (minus the few renegades like Kimmage), joe public is none the wiser.

What seals it for me is not so much the dominance during the tour (reasonably explained by weak competition & tailor made parcours), but their total dominance over the entire stage race calendar. Anybody seen that before?

As 131313 explained it once "this is a business, it just happens to resemble a sport". And no better exponent of the antics of modern business than Murdoch.

the question will always remain the same. why -- when there are many doctors with completely unblemished records -- would you choose a doping doc.

clearly a calculation is made. the performance benefit the doping doctor provides vs. the possible PR fallout for using them.

just like armstrong before them, sky chose to keep their connection with the doping doc under the radar for as long as possible (the best way of keeping the PR fallout from happening). now that it is out, it is about weathering the "storm" and hoping never to be caught.

there is still no logical reason for hiring a doping doc other than to dope.

Exactly, and, for now, the calculation has paid off big-time - the bad PR is restricted to the "clinic 12".

Anyone know the latest on the whereabouts of the Doping Doctor ? wouldnt he be needed pre-Vuelta ?

Was wondering the same thing as the above. Surely given one of his mandates was also to be able to be a specialist for illnesses in hot climate conditions - it follows that he'd therefore be at the Vuelta.

Leinders Update

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/brailsford-vague-on-leinders-investigation

Cyclingnews asked Brailsford for details on the nature of the supposed investigation – namely, has that internal investigation begun, what does it consist of and when will it conclude?

Brailsford paused before replying: “Well, I think we’re addressing the issue. We’re satisfied with what we’re doing and we’ll come to a conclusion soon.”

A follow-up question was interrupted. “I don’t want to comment on it anymore,” Brailsford said, already edging towards his team bus, before adding: “We’re here to talk about the Worlds, aren’t we?”

'Hat' to Barry Ryan/Cyclingnews for asking valid questions and publishing.

Yes, but it looks like CN continue to take **** for an answer. With all we know about cycling and doping, answers like this are a disgrace, an insult.
CN should consider boycotting those press conferences. Now that would be a statement.

It wasn't a press conference.
Brailsford was at the world championships over the weekend in his capacity as British Cycling’s performance director, and before the start of the men’s road race start in Maastricht on Sunday morning, Cyclingnews asked Brailsford for details on the nature of the supposed investigation
A follow-up question was interrupted. “I don’t want to comment on it anymore,” Brailsford said, already edging towards his team bus, before adding: “We’re here to talk about the Worlds, aren’t we?”
They asked, he fled. Not much else they could do.

true. but the point is they continue to take **** for an answer. be it at a press conference be it somewhere else.
if you continue to ask questions, they'll continue to sell crap. simple.
all this "asking the right questions", what does it bring? Guys like Phat and Dopeforte continue to sell crappy answers, and journos, like sheep, continue to provide coverage of a sport that is increasingly turning into a joke.
obviously as a journo one has to think about one's job, but well... if a bunch of journos (Walsh/CN, and some others with influence) could stick their heads together and coordinate a boycott. Why not?

The action of a guilty man.

How stupid is Brailsford? Did he think Leinders appointment would go under the radar? What a plonker.

Watch all that funding slide away when the truth comes out about Leinders and Wiggins doped to win.

The 2 biggest sporting anti-doping Journalists in the UK? Walsh and Kimmage. They will not be bending over backwards for Queen and country as they are Irish.

They didn't do it when Michelle Smith won all those medals for Ireland at the Olympics.

Considering he gave UK Wiggo, I'm pretty sure the public and press will do their best to let it slip.

Anyways, I am shoced and amazed if they still hire Leinders. They are just wishing this goes away.

Nothing to see here, move along and all that

I would love to get a read of the tome on transparency. I bet that is a laugh a page when you compare it with what they have actually done.

Brailsfrod running for the bus, almost Bruyneelish.

He was only contracted, right? Can't Brailsford just say - his contract has ended, who he is and what he may or may not have done is now in the past and out of our hands?

What do I get if this is the final Brailsford statement on the matter?

:D

He's hoping it will all go and away and be forgotten. If it wasn't for Cyclingnews reminding him he would have thought it done and dusted.

A bit like when they were saying they "may" release blood profiles. Now the Tour is over they've just moved on.

Hiring a Doctor for 80 days is pointless. There's nothing they can do in this time. Other than administer doping products on key dates.

Alas I still think Leinders is a smoke screen. DB is happy to let it hang. Just so no one starts looking at the Ferrari connection. My own words.

What happened to the invitation to the Manchester Velodrome in September where how they won the TdF would be revealed, all welcome?

This tactic is right out of Armstrongs book.

I can't remember where I read it but I'm pretty sure Brailsford was quoted as saying that nobody had yet taken him up on his offer to come along to the presentation in Manchester and presumably as a result there won't be one!

Eye contact.
Facial expression to match content.
"We're addressing the issue."
"We're satisfied with what we're doing."
"We'll come to a conclusion soon."

Someone mentioned in another thread that Kerrison and Leindeers probably weren't running the "program", that it would be someone we'd never heard of before.

To be honest, this Fabio guy needs his own thread.
