Robert Gesink will not participate in the Giro di Lombardia. His father had a mountainbike accident, he's in the hospital now, and apparently severely injured as Gesink has immediately decided to fly back to Holland.

Some more news about Gesink's father: he was found by a friend, lying in a meadow. He was transported to the hospital by a trauma helicopter. Rabobank DS Frans Maassen has described his situation as very serious.

For the few people that like the guy: Mark Cavendish wil be a guest on Dutch tv-show Holland Sport 8.30CET tonight.
Unless it's geo-restricted, this should be viewable through http://www.uitzendinggemist.nl after the show or tomorrow.
There's also a weekly cycling game (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpAGsQHlNjA) in which the guests compete, prolly cool to see how Cav will do. Theo Bos has the 'track' record.

Well I guess they hope this will help towards the license for next year but I really don't think the Giro helps Sastre, perhaps Menchov wasn't going to do it....so Sastre rides all three and Menchov does what? Tour-Vuelta, just Tour or Giro-Tour.

Sad news. Apparently Robert Gesink's father passed away. No written source - just word of mouth from some folks that are familiar with the situation. RIP.
