Stage 17:

Obvious breakaway stage, but I'm pretty sure that was the idea after a huge stage 16. San Lugano wasn't mentioned in the article. If it's not used, the stage will be longer, but flatter towards the end.

Stage 18:

This is using the detail given by the article, which mentions Pordoi-Valparola-Tre Cime. Thing is, the only logical way to use this three is stick Campologno on after Pordoi. Looks like an interesting profile, however, there is something puzzling; the distance. Such a stage would be 95km long. Bit too short. I'm also disappointed about the use of Valparola instead of Giau, but hey. I think this stage isn't exactly what we'll get on Tuesday, but hey, it's just to give an idea.

Stage 19:
no real information given. The article only claims Piancavallo, but it's unlikely they won't climb anything else. Either way, I think this stage will be soft-pedalled, given the difficulty of the preceding and following stages. Maybe an attack on the MTF, but nothing else. A bit disappointing but, hey, we sort of knew that from the start.

Stage 20:
what we already knew.

Stage 21:
A time trial ( :surprised: :D ), hopefully at least 30km long.

Also, the Blockhaus stage could end at Passo Lanciano, though they don't really seem sure. Stage 6 should start in Reggio Calabria, which isn't that surprising, whilst stage 11 is set to start in Ponte a Erna. . Such a long transfer after the ITT?

Oh, and the Giro is set to pass through about 15 of the 20 regions, possibly 16 (if the race ends in Roma). In 2011 they did better :D .

A shame they most likely won't finish in Rome. Milan is a city with nothing to offer besides the Duomo and fashion.

The 100th Giro should end in Rome, on a route that uses the old Roman roads (think of the extinct Roma Maxima semi-classic), to make for an exciting final stage. It's time to break traditions and have the last stage of a GT be raced for real. The finish-line should be in front of the Colloseum.

The winner should be crowned with a Radiant Crown, made from actual gold (and if that's too expensive, a layer of gold will do just fine). It looks something like depicted on this coin:

The Qataris have bought a lot of buildings in the financial district of Milano. They are about to buy the cycling world or already have. So this fits perfectly.

At first I was excited when I saw Tre Cime at the list of stages, but not so much after looking at the map. It looks like they are doing San Pellegrino and Giau before looping around via Pieve di Cadore and Auronzo di Cadore, and then approaching Misurina and Tre Cime from the east? It that is so, this isn't exactly what I hoped for!

the map is just a sketch.

I actually hope that the canazei stage is a bit more flat to give sprinters a chance. Otherwise the las sprint stage of the whole giro would be stage 13. thats way too early
2011 = stage 12 :D

This is the flattest it can get with Tonale:

You can decide if that's sprinter-friendly. I'll say it's not really, but...

So that a c grade sprinter can win a stage in the 100th Giro d'Italia? No thanks, we have the Vuelta for that.

It might at least cause a good battle for the points classification. But if they have no chance after stage 13 even guys like Nizzolo or Modolo will abandon.
However to be honest, it's probably relatively unlikely that this stage would end in a sprint anyway. It looks a bit too hard.

If you purely look at the finishes of the last week, it looks like a hard final week.

But we all know that's not really the case.

Cyclingnews mentions Ortisei instead of Tre Cime. Hmm.

I can't wait for the presentation. I honestly got pretty depressed when I saw that Tour-route, but it doesn't really matter anyways if they don't wanna race like this year's Tour. Guess that means 2 weeks in Piemonte on my bike instead.

The last week is extremely hard

Nah, not really. Piancavallo is a singular MT finish and the stage to Asagio is most likely only with Grappa in it.

Sure, it's still decent. But it could have been better imo.

It doesnt needs to be 2012-levels to be hard tho. As it stands now, it will be a pretty demanding 3rd week when you also consider the time trial. I guess it depends on just how hard the dolomite stage will be.

There's no way on earth they'll be able to have that transfer, especially given that after stage 20 there will be a transfer of either c.280km or c.590km. Maybe rest day 2 will be after stage 10... oh, wait, Lanciano -> Foligno is a distance of 230km.
Something isn't right about the start location of stage 11, imho.

Sure. We still have to wait for further details. But they could have designed a better/more interesting final week. Not necessarily harder.

The riders are making the race. We saw that in 2012 :D
