Look up Tour de France 1990 for a comparison

Although Chiapucci won 15 minutes on a stage like today's, it should be noted that if he hadn't lost half his lead by being behind on another such stage, he'd have won that Tour.

We haven't hit any of the proper mountains yet. Look up Tour de France 1990 for a comparison, this race will be won by one of the big favourites still* - they just will have to work a lot harder for it and it will be a lot more interesting. For guys like Vino and Basso that won't be leaders at the Tour, they have to go full gun. Nibali maybe won't bother. Evans will look at his team and realise this may be as close as he's going to get this year so it's worth burying himself.

* or David Arroyo :D

Not sure about the 1990 comparison. Chiappucci was an unknown and although he climbed well he wasn't at his best, not in the same league as Sastre is relatively now.

How I would love it if Voeckler managed to win this.

He tried and tried and tried last year and came close a few times. This year's looking similar.

Also, it would shut up those people who think the quality of a team = the quality of its best GC guy and won't shut up about how Bouygues are the worst team ever and don't deserve to ever be in any GT :)
