Yeah, he was in the front group. Constantly sitting in the back, so probably already tired.
Then make 1 mistake in the downhill...and bam.. Luckily he is ok now. Well definately with some injuries (don't know what), but alive and well

Was it even downhill? The terrain looked pretty even to me at that point.

Results are in down to 194 now, which may be the final number. Porte and Cavendish in a group at 18.49 down along with Hoogerland.

Was Rujano just dropped or did he puncture?

he was with pozzovivo in climb, so lost a lot of time after that. also jackson and ochoa lost more time so they must've had flats for sure, those were supposed to help rujano :(

Good to see the likes of Menchov, Anton and Nieve come through that stage without losing any time. Job done for Contador also.

Nice return to form for Cataldo, finishing with the lead group despite crashing into a ditch

BTW Gatto finished 7th in the Eroica this year

Ha!

That'd be a first for Bruyneel.

not even bruyneel can entirely drain tiago's suicidal attacking mentality. prolly just made him a bit smarter *hopes*

Great stage. Spectacular scenery. Like the sterrato (packed-dirt) roads, though the riders probably less.

There was a shot from Orvieto when the riders were at 15k to go, where you could see the dust kicked up from the riders wheels off in the distance. Awsome.

Hats of to the winner. Excellent finisseur that Pieter Weening.

Tonight its Orvieto Bianco with the sea bass I bought at the market.

Hoogerland at 18 minutes, a bit disappointing if he isnt saving all his energy..

I suspect he's going OK and just losing some time to gain freedom for stage hunting.

RAI said that was an eusakaltel soigneur who thought slagter was an euskalter rider.

That's stupid... Although I wanna see the accident again, if Slagter wanted to catch that bottle its just bad luck. No wonder he was acting so nervously.

Yes, tomorrow for example could be a good stage for a break. Tricky finish for sprinters, one less team interested in chasing and big gaps after today.

Machado's ambitions for top 5 aren't shot. Make that call after stage 15.

lul his top 5 chances were shot before the race. its his first GT with an extreme (and awesome) course and one of the best line ups in years :p

his top 10 chances on the other hand . . . .

you heard it here first machado to win on the zoncolan from the break and getting himself into pink by 30 secs

No, Hoogerland is reportedly sick, and using antibiotics.

Well at least he's lost some time to gain freedom for stage hunting.

Every cloud has a silver lining :D

Of course you should never count someone out after 5 (4) stages and even before the first mountain stage, but it's going to be nearly impossible for Machado to break into top 5 now.

at least we can count on rujano and machado to go in some insane breaks.
surprises of the day were anton and pozzovivo, they did very well for this terrain.

Really deserved win by Rabobank, in the last 40 km they really were the team that did most of the attacking and tried to make something of it
