Hindley was never on Rogla's level and 6 minutes behind Storer doesn't bode well... I think that Pellizzari will be better than him at the Giro.
I still can't understand how he beat Carapaz and Landa in the Giro.
Carapaz finished third in the Tour, and Landa, at 35, is better than him.

In any case, the Tour of the Alps isn't always significant. Last year, Juan Pedro Lopez won and he did a bad Giro. Hindley will probably be stronger in Giro than Storer.

As I recall, after Hendleys 2022 Giro win, he targeted the Tour and was very clearly not in the same ballpark as the top contenders. And nothing he’s done is on the level of Roglic in last years Vuelta. I’d love to see him ride as plan B tho.

Hindley won a stage in the 2023 Tour, led the race afterwards, and was still in third place when he crashed on stage 14. We'll never know whether he could have held onto the podium otherwise, but he could have finished higher than 7th. He obviously wasn't matching the two aliens, but I doubt many people really believed he ever could.

Exactly. I’d just like to see him perform at similar or even slighter higher level than the 2022 Giro. At his age and point of his career I think it’s a reasonable expectation.

The other thing people forget is at the time Carapaz led the Giro before Hindley cracked him on Fedaia, Carapaz had podiumed the Tour the year before (behind the big two).

Edit: Damn spell checker on my phone!

I mean…he won a stage from the breakaway, doing the climb nearly 2 minutes slower than Vingegaard, then the next day he was 2:39 slower than Pogacar.
Are you referring to the 2022 Giro? That wasn't how Hindley won that Grand Tour. He won because he was the best climber. And as was already pointed out nobody is saying he would rival those two.

No, I'm referring to the 2023 Tour. Again, I agree he should be in the poll and his performances have dropped off slightly; I'm just pointing out that there is a reason the team chose not to go all-in with him as the leader. There were some comments about it being unfair that the team brought in Roglic and chose to build around him instead of Hindley. Hindley has 9 wins total, including 4 in his best season. Roglic has 95, including more than 4 in each season since 2016, aside from this year, though he already has 3 before starting any of his big targets. Again, I think he should be a protected rider and given his shot, but I also see him as more of a Sepp Kuss than a potential Vingegaard.

Ciccone looked really strong today.
Maybe he didn't want to push too hard in the Tour of the Alps when the race went crazy.

Tudor needs wins, but LIDL prioritizes the Giro. Ciccone won a stage, and when Arensman and Storer got involved in the long-distance fights, he seemed to be oblivious. He looked strong again today.

Lopez was very strong in the Tour of the Alps last year and had a disappointing Giro. It's possible that LIDL didn't want Ciccone to push too hard for a Tour of the Alps.

Who are the Vino votes? @veganrob @GenericBoonenFan @Heston @Mayomaniac @Carrick-On-Seine @Wyndbrook

Gaudu, Storer, Hindley, Ciccone, Pidcock, Arensman, Quintana???

Hindley would've gotten 2nd in the 2023 Tour if not for his crash. Having said that he's nowhere near Roglics level and having mythical form every 3 years for like one week isn't a great reason to put him anywhere near a pre race favorite.
I think Adam Yates goes under the radar, so far he has always shown to be in excellent form for UAE in a GT and his lack of results this season might be misleading.

Hindley has had a very funny career. Never seen as that great of a prospect until he suddenly almost wins the Giro. Opinions are then divided whether that was just due to the weird circumstances of 2020 or him actually being a future GT winner. 2021 happens and everyone agrees on the former just for him to come kinda out of nowhere to win the 2022 edition. People are now saying he is a top 5 GC rider and feel validated when he starts the 2023 Tour incredibly well, just for him to do nothing noteworthy in the almost two years since then. Evidently whenever we think we've figured the guy out he does the exact opposite of what we expect. So perhaps we really shouldn't underestimate him just because of two bad years.
