Takeaways from Roubaix:
1). This Slovenian result is not some sort of fluke, nor is it a surprise. 1, 2 might be overdoing it a bit, but Omrzel and Valjavec are legit and were amongst the (heavy) favorites and outsiders. I believe Omrzel goes to Bahrain next year, whereas Valjavec has a deal with QuickStep. Not the last we've seen from them.

2). Very risky what I am about to say here, but Albert Withen Philipsen probably had the legs to win, until he crashed on Carrefour de l'Arbre. He'll be back on this Velodrome soon enough.

3). Ashlin Barry as expected by far the best 1st year junior. I think, he too, had winning potential, but got caught in the group 2 dynamics and that was his race over. Still came very close to making it back, but there's always next year.

4). Hector Alvarez is legit. Spanish juniors usually don't do too well when going abroad, but for the second time running he's there in the elite group.

5). Impossible to say what happened because so many things happen in Roubaix, but the Avia boys Orn-Kristoff and Keppens, who were really, really good last week, nowhere to be found.

Although I have no idea if he would even start, that would be rather unfortunate with the Two Days of Eroica, which actually take 4 days, starting in 11 days, a race he would have loved to ride (and win) over the sterrato.

Clearing concussion protocol is 14 days, no?

Just heard that Roubaix was Ashlin Barry's last race in Europe for a while, he won't make a return until the summer. This means we'll have to wait for Destruction 2.0, and we won't see the next confrontation in the Peace Race. Also heard he was close to making it back to the front of the race this weekend, until he got cramps..

Just seen this. Van Dijk gained nothing from riding on the red as it was on the straight, these guys rode the whole lap on the red. Should have been a demotion for all those guys

It was obvious an issue, but without my shouting dq perhaps it's once more a lack of clarity around rules. Likely some of the guys will not have ridden track before and clearly marking of the course with some form of barrier might have been prudent.
Track rules and road rules are very different and let's hope the situation cannot happen next year.

Looking to ride the US nationals this year, sounded like he meant the elite race but not totally clear. 2028 Olympics the big goal to get selected there.

That was my perception but just looked it up and he is only eligible to ride the juniors. Have to be 19 and older to do the elite men’s races.

That was my thought too. Think the only cases a junior could "ride the Elite Race" would be if the Junior Race and the Elite Race were held together.

Also, is it "19 and older", or "turning 19 that year"?
Barry is from September, so he won't actually have turned 19 by the time of the 2026 nationals. However, in 2026 he'll be too old to ride the Junior Category at the World Championships.

I'm going to assume it's the usual "year of turning 19" definition.
Otherwise there'd be a bunch of riders each year who couldn't ride the nationals because their birthdays are at the "wrong" time of the year.

One American out, another American in. With Barry ending his spring season after Roubaix, EF have flown in Peyton Burckel. He is making his international debut here in Pays d'Iroise, and I am particularly interested in seeing what he is worth after he beat Barry in the Valley of the Sun ITT by quite a big gap. Not the biggest race, but still a good field regardless.

Also fully behind Enrique Maranchon and Hakon Eiksund Oksnes, as per usual. I got Seth Dunwoody to win.
