Junior racing - The stars of the future

King Albert is back! Probably has not quite matched the expectations after 2023 so far, but not for a lack of legs. In Paris-Roubaix he crashed at Carrefour de ’larbre but managed to catch up with the leading group and probably would have won if his chasers had not taken a shortcut in the vélodrome. At E3 Saxo Classic recently he went solo on the Paterberg and distanced the chasers by a minute, then he punctured, was caught and messed up the sprint (that’s his own words anyway). Seems like luck is finally on his side again!

Edit: forgot to add some context. Philipsen just won the tt of the Peace Race and took the leader’s jersey.

The rivalry between Cat Ferguson and Célia Gery has continued this weekend with the former winning the sprint to the line on both stages of Bizkaikoloreak in the Basque country.

First year junior Paula Ostiz was hyped ahead of this season, because she had managed to get decent results in some male junior races in Spain last year, and today she finished 3rd. However it's been the 11 month younger Irati Aranguren who's impressed the most among the local riders by finishing 4th overall.

Hello, the party of the thread has returned, on a different name due to a forgotten password. Although this was from a good ten days ago, I'd still like to dedicate a post to it. Because while one Dane was bleeding minutes throughout the Tour de France, another one was winning it, albeit the junior version. Before the race I was quite intrigued to see how Albert Withen Philipsen and Ashlin Barry would fare on this terrain compared to the featherweights, but the latter (and his entire team) caught covid and were forced to abandon the following days.

The former, however, remains off the charts. Truth be told, this wasn't the hardest route they had ever drawn up in Valromey, but I did not expect AWP to compete, let alone drop the likes of Seixas, Pericas and Finn basically every day. Not to mention his team was crap and his two best teammates (Magnus Åhman and specifically Hugo Rishøj) abandoned the race the day before the queen stage. As expected, Seixas attacked an basically every vertical meter and AWP hardly broke a sweat. He is still miles and miles ahead of the rest in pure power. He is now 2/2 on big stage races this year. I guess the only thing left to do is to become 3x world champion in one season.

p.s. Some pro team needs to sign Pavel Sumpik, now.

Not sure if he's signed but hasn't he been riding on a DSM bike all season long?
He has, and it is the most likely scenario he will make the jump with them. However, I keep hoping someone like Lefevere feels the need to add another Czech to please the Bakala connection. It would be a travesty if DSM get to perform another disasterclass on such a talented rider.

Gotta wonder, is Dutch cycling dead? Like will Visma even have any Dutch young riders in their devo team in the future? Ofcourse there's a few, but they are at Alpecin (Del Grosso, Remijn for example) and there's still DSM but I feel like the Netherlands have a problem with development right now.

Remijn said he say no to Visma because Visma didn't want him to do cyclocross!
Del Grosso is probably the same story.
