Not talking about wiggins. Not a fan. Why does Nibali get a free ride. Every choice he has made in his career from an early stage was that of a serial doper. He's an utter fraud and if he wins the giro cycling is back to Armstrong days.

Just sayin' that after 2012, it's game on. You cannot blame Nibali for stepping up.

Hesjedal lost a lot of weight and clearly lost a lot of watts and even his ability to recover in the process.

Not normal.

Oh wait, that's completely ****ing normal and is exactly what you'd expect with a clean rider. Jesus christ.

This is along the lines of what we are thinking. he started the Giro at the same weight he finished at last year. He didn't lose power, but recovery, it seems.

Now you guys understand why I do back flips every time we win something big. And why I get so upset when it is called into question. Because I know the next time we will win something big won't be next week. The stars only align once in a while. But it is quite fun when they do.

While there may be other reasons, it is pretty clear to everyone that Sky has more resources and the money to pay a squad whose talent goes far deeper than Garmin. The first budget figures I found in google were for 2011 - that year Sky spent 11 million euros to Garmin's 6.5. Guys that are domestiques on Sky would be clear leaders at Garmin. Is it any wonder that Sky is more succesful?

Well, the planets did align pretty recently, at LBL. Anyways, with someone like Hesjedal gambling and losing on this weight thing, and all the rumours about weight-loss drugs, which would probably allow a rider to keep his weight unreasonably low without any payoff in terms of power or recovery, one can't help but wonder: is this the new frontier, now that blood doping has been sort of capped?

It is nice to know someone gets affected by losing too much weight. I was starting to think there is no minimum limit.

For the sake of completeness, I hope you release Ryder's BP to Veloclinic for a 2012 / 2013 comparison analysis.

Not clinic, but do yall have plans for Ryder to attack from far out on some of the big mountain stages jv?

Would be great to see the defending champion going on long stage breaks. if he has it in the legs of course.

Last year Garmin had a good TTT, which meant RH didn't have to go ballistic to get time back in the first few days and over cook it before the mountains.

That only works when you have a swimming coach, everybody knows.

So, Hesjedal drops 2 kilo and is crap. Other riders lose 8 kilo and win the Tour. Well, well, well.

if only life was so simple..........i could lose 10 of my 80kg bulk.......and fly

some cyclists losing 10kg............might risk death

pretty easy explanation.

Ryder is the leader in July. His season is centred around July, not the festival of May.

hypothetically, if you were doing a medical program, your medical program is july innit. not may

Thanks for answering :) I guess losing that much weight so quickly without losing anything else can only be achieved through the use of AICAR.

Let me correct you. Hesjedal drops 2 kg of good muscle and is crap. Others drop 8 kg of crap and are good:D. Donot ask where that 8 kg of crap is stored;).

It is impossible to peak %95 all year long without a swimming coach

Wigans could do that in the first place because, as everybody knows, he's full of crap.

You guys realise Ryder did lose that much weight, during the Giro last year, and still rode strong, wining said Giro, right? No indication of time taken to lose the weight this time around has been mentioned anywhere, but if it was 3 weeks or more, it has nothing to do with him underperforming now, based on previous performances.

In fact, at the weight he finished the Giro in 2012, Ryder was putting out better power::weight than before he started the Giro.

JV1973 said:
Ryder was actually showing high power to weight and better form in the 7 days before the Tour, than he was before the Giro. Whether or not his form would have held for the entire length of the Tour? I don't know. No one does.

JV

So it is only (allegedly) his recovery that is suffering.

Do you know anything about cycling?

If you go into a race at something that is, in theory, the lowest weight you can have to perform, then obviously you'll lose more weight during the GT and drop in performance.

Going into a GT a few kgs above ideal weight and lose weight until you're exactly at your ideal weight is something completely different, and is quite logically the ideal situation.
