You wouldn't invite him knowing what's coming up. If you've got spare cash you'd get the Shleck's. I'm not buying it. Mike Turtur is not stupid. He knows what went on in the glory days and now he's signed himself to deal with the Armstrong fall out right before the statute expires. That will be a winner for tourism!

The world championships were great. Many many riders from all over the world competing for the honour to wear the world championship jersey. None being paid two million. It was wonderful way to show off the country.

Sadly the TDU is different. If you want to build cycling get Gilbert back. Get the Shlecks - good looking guys who the girls love and the guys want to be. Make them superstars, ride off the back of them and build cycling at the same time.

Im not disagreeing getting other riders would be great but unfortunately the Aussie public are unaware of these riders and if promoted would be unlikely to turn out in droves.

Im completely against Armstrong and what he has done to the sport but in reality he is going to bring people and massive publicity to the event .

If we could get other World Class riders to the event and then also use Lance's image to attract the publicity and crowds and therefore dollars it would be beneficial.

Whether you like it or not Lance is a massive public figure and is seen as a hero to millions and thats not going to change no matter what happens and he is always going to be the centre of attention while he is around the cycling world.

It happens in all sports , how much did Galaxy pay for an over the hill Beckam , Australia paid Millions for Tiger Woods to come out , our A League competition pay guests appearances for players to come out for 4 Games . (Romario, Bernito Carbone who were well and truly over thirty and past thier best).

I couldn't give a toss if Lance recieved $2 or $2 million dollars, he is entitled to whatever he can negotiate.

Seems to me that there are a lot of whiners on here for whom it really rankles that Lance is actually doing something good for humanity outside of cycling and they don't like it. Why not? Well if you have a view of someone as a sociopath, then it doesn't quite fit that model if they are exhibiting humanitarian tendencies. So what do you do to reshape your view? Well you just twist the story so it appears that the person is only doing it for ego and to remain in the spotlight. You downplay the worth by quiblling about actual dollars raised and you claim that they are somehow being fraudulent in spending hundreds of hours each year travelling and working to raise funds...because that is somehow so much easier to do than sitting at home and enjoying their wealth as most of us would do.

He donated the Livestrong name and all of its goodwill. He was paid 1.995MM it seems not the bloated 2MM number reported in the forum

It's like the bullied kid at school paying someone to be his friend.

If I were in Armstrong's shoes, I too would take a two week training holiday to Adelaide for $2 million. It would be hypocritical of me to criticise him for it.

If I were the taxpayer, however, I would be furious that I would be subsidising a multimillionaire's pre-season training camp. Especially when that same money could be used to bring a better class of racer to the event. Like others have said - change the parcours a bit and make the prize money $2mil, and you'll have the best in the world there right away.

First race that early in the season, teams don't want to be shipping time trial bikes all across the globe for just one use.

Prologue on road bikes would be a better idea.

Or the 2mil can be used to fund the teams to carry extra bikes over (TT bikes).

I doubt SA - the other two are pretty obvious but he won't ride after ATOC. Can't recall the date of that SA junket.

He and the other team owners needs him in ATOC to help generate some media for a new / returning sponsor.
