No, Visma will not play any numbers game.

They tired it already, for example in the stage that Jonas went on the attack. The idea there was for Matteo to try to get an advantage. Pogi hunted all attempts down and Visma still profited slightly, as Pogi had to chase both down. For sure Visma is playing the numbers game all along and i don't see any special reason on why they wouldn't continue to do so, both even went all out in the ITT. At minimum they put fatigue in Pogi for half the effort invested so no reason on why they wouldn't continue to do that.

Because Visma wanted to win the stage.

That something will not aplly in the mountains, and definitely not in the Tour.

The objective for the next days is for Visma, doing a simulation of what will do in the Tour, and see the level of Vingegaard and Pogacar in pure power.

It is not relevant using "numbers" that in reality doesn't exist, because the only guy who can and will beat pogacar in the Tour is Vingegaard.

Jorgenson, yates and kuss will only be there to put a strong pace.

At the Tour i agree that it is less likely, for them to be in a position of playing the numbers game. At this race i feel that they couldn't care less with whom they win it, just as long as one of Visma riders does it. Matteo will try again.
The plan should be simulate what you are doing in the Tour, test the legs and see how the rivals are, otherwise it doesn't make any sense doing the Dauphiné.

If the plan is Vingegaard beat mano a mano Pogacar in pure force, you need test things, not numbers, because not visma or uae have any numbers.

There is no numbers against Vingegaard and Pogacar during a GT, unless evenepoel suddenly improves a lot and fights with them.

Matteo gaining an advantage doesn't mean Pogi (or Remco) will just give up. Jonas is already ahead of Pogi, as long as he doesn't lose any substantial time. All in all they can get the needed data either way. More then getting the data they want to win this race. So expect Matteo to continue trying. First of all they put fatigue in their rivals, using numbers, by any chance if Matteo takes advantage of some situation, can at minimum be used as satellite rider when over the hill. Or yes, if in such position, to go for it. At such stage races he can be very strong and IMHO the plan A is to show that. So at minimum to soften up Pogi a bit, before going mano-a-mano with Jonas, or yes, to win it alone, if the opportunity allows for it.

P.S. If Pogi beats them, after doing a rather bad ITT, imagine on how will that look like.

Think you are right. Full sky train is for longer harder stages and races. Also think it's important for Visma to make Matteo feel, like he has a place in the one weeks. They where also both going for P-N.

It'd be a waste not to use his GC position strategically in this race. Tulett and Kuss can pace on the climb today, but it will be up to UAE to give it the last notch.

Tomorrow, I think Jorgenson will attack on Croix-de-Fer. Or sooner. He will force others to keep a high pace, and the dream scenario is that Vingegaard attacks near the end of Glandon and bridges across to him. All other teams are weak, so GC captains will have to pull in the valley behind them.

I expect Visma (with eventually Matteo) to attack on Croix de Fer too. They would probably need Valter in the break to make the threat effective, though. Then on Croix de Fer, you can use Tullet's and Kuss's position to attack and create chaos, which will set the stage for the Jorg attack - which will explode the bunch. Then it's a great situation for them. But that's just one scenario out of many that are possible with this strong climbing roster.

Croix de Fer has too much descending after the climbs to be anything but a bait plan. Unless you go all the way to the Alpe after and then see what everyone has.
