Brian Cookson

The problem I have with Mr Cookson is the fact that British Cycling and Team Sky are connected with the Murdochs, and I wonder who will be pulling the strings if he gets to be UCI President????

I alao wonder who is paying for him flying all over the world ????

If you're going to be abrasive, don't be surprised if you get a backhand. And don't whine about it.
There was nothing abrasive about saying your original post is completely void of any point or argument.

Moose McKnuckles said:
Look, Cookson has said many things. He previously backed McQuaid's re-election bid. How does one who wants to change the sport for the better end up backing scum like McQuaid?
He did - back in January.

This goes back to you and others assuming that Cookson is in the know about Fat Pats dealings. The independent commission was the pee or get off the pot moment for McQ, if he has nothing to hide let it runs its course.
Which is why McQ killed it.

I fear this is true. Well, that's if we're still here, and cycling hasn't by then morphed into something unrecognizable that we no longer care about it.

If Mr. Michael Brian Cookson OBE is elected UCI President
there is a very good chance the Absolute Hour Record will
be resurrected and co-exist with the Athletes Hour Record.
A number of bike, component and wheel companies that give
great support to professional cycling have been pushing for
the return of the Absolute Hour Record for a number of years.

Yep, inspite of all the endorsements dear Brian has got under his belt he will prove to be the next accident waiting to happen.

That is GREAT news.

Relevance?

It goes far beyond that. The reason why Vaughters and such support Cookson is because he will sell the sport out to gear companies. Vaughters wants a Formula 1-like faux sport, where a contest of man against man becomes a marketing exercise for whatever product the bike companies have collectively decided to push onto consumers, where teams are more important than individual riders, and where the focus is on whatever technology bike companies want claim will improve the performance of 16 mile per hour freds whose big event of the year is a local recreational century.

Funny thing is - while I dismissed 'oldcranks' post as jingoism - things like The Hour are totally relevant to what the UCI is meant to be.

I think Cookson is just getting a lot of mud slung at from here because of the prejudice againt the Brits, Sky, the UCI and Murdoch. Anything but McQuaid for me, until he goes nothing will change, and the only reason he is trying so hard to hang on to power he knows the skeletons will start tumbling out of the cupboard so fast he and Hein's head will be spinning with all the lawsuits.

A portion of this is correct.

If Cookson knew nothing then he has no business being president of the UCI, since he's clearly clueless about the goings-on in cycling. Apparently, the Clinic knew more about this than Cookson. It is patently ridiculous to claim that someone like Cookson would be oblivious to McQuaid's corruption or at the very least suspicion surrounding McQuaid. How is it that Cookson can claim to support McQuaid as late as January? That's insane.

By the way, I see that others had no trouble understanding what I was saying.

Of course you would think that.

If Cookson was not British I really doubt you would care.

Which is it? Is McQuaid corrupt, or is there just suspicions?

You're anonymous, on an internet forum - you expect Cookson or anyone else to specify something (even the leaked dossier is light on specifics) when you cannot even say it here?

You will also "see" that they have an exceedingly hard time articulating their 'points' too.

That makes ZERO sense. Cookson is much closer to being in the know than me, and I can smell the putrid stench coming from McQuaid and Verbruggen. Apparently, Cookson's awareness isn't very well developed as he offered his support as early as this year to McQuaid's re-election bid. He'd make a poor choice for UCI chief, though it seems competent choices are few and far between.
