I agree with you that steroid use is rampant in college football.

The article said that it was MANDATORY. Not just mandatory, but mandatory across the Pac-12. That means institutional doping--in every Pac-12 school. The article also said that people were getting injected in Pac-12 weight rooms.

A secret like that cannot be kept. First, there are too many honest people associated with the sport. Second, there are always spurned players who turn on the team when their expectations are not met. Third, there are reporters who would drool (and pay) for a story about institutional doping. Fourth, the story lacked even the slightest hint at proof or even a credible source.

Like I said. The article is garbage.

It could be something of poetic license. But, if it is literal, we are likely splitting hairs.

It is also mandatory if you want to win the Tour.

Personally, I am not going to make a big fuss about how mandatory, mandatory is - or if this is not inclusive of any red-shirted player. If Nike is a sponsor for any Pac-12 school, that may clinch it. And, looks like they sponsor all of them.

This is a stupid generalization for any of you to buy in to as there are players that don't use and they start for Div 1 teams. If you're in Eugene or Beaverton I can't speak to the mentality with the big N just down the road but we'd be all *****y if some lunkhead from the Midwest made fun of cyclists crashing so we are in pointless territory here.

What has any of this got to do with Lance?

Look at the Nike thing as a plea to get us back on topic.

So I am going to ask if there has been any mention recently of LA's plans to show up the last week of leTour??
Given the sad state of the RS team in this Tour I am wondering what his purpose besides PR might be, or if the reality of this plan has been overshadowed by other pressing issues?

Hopefully he will stay in Austin or wherever he calls home these days, and save the fuel & running costs of the Livestrong pony express from another hop across the pond.

Nothing to celebrate, other than duping the sponsors into filling Bruyneel's pockets for another two years of buying soon-to-be shelf-expired riders with questionable past's and capabilities.

The white lunch bags seem to have lost their magic this year.....

Yup. If you want to talk college football or anything else non-Lance, don't do it in this thread.

Lance files a motion!

__

The Armstrong motion says: “[T]he leading government advocate for the Armstrong investigation, Novitzky, was recently connected to an investigation riddled with leaks to the same reporters involved in this case, and has a documented history of over-reaching and disregarding individual’s [sic] privacy rights. …

“A grand jury is not a vehicle to facilitate government-sponsored campaigns of character assassination. … Someone … with regular access to grand jury information is routinely flouting the law requiring grand jury secrecy. … Over the past year, purported details of a grand jury investigation relating to Armstrong and professional cycling races in Europe have been deliberately leaked to the media on dozens of occasions … The leaks have rendered what should have been a closed investigation into a field day for reporters with access to the leaks, and an easy forum for whoever seeks to damage Armstrong’s reputation. …

“They guarantee that even if exonerated and never charged, Armstrong’s reputation will have been severely damaged. … Armstrong requests the Court to issue an order to show cause to the government requiring each government agent involved in this investigation to show why he or she should not be held in contempt for violating Rule 6(e)” on grand jury secrecy.

Armstrong’ lawyers are asking the judge to order, then manage, an inquiry into potential prosecutorial or investigator misconduct.

<snip>

Over the past year, purported details of a grand jury investigation relating to Armstrong and professional cycling races in Europe have been deliberately leaked to the media on dozens of occasions …

So let's see, which are the "dozens of occasions".... so there MUST be at least 25 instances, given his lawyers' drive for accuracy of facts must not be overlooked or diminished..... anybody care to start listing them?

I think there is a misprint: Tyler Hamilton was "speaking", not leaking the words on 60 minutes. Jeff Novitsky wasn't in the room.

The best defence is a good offence!

Have there been leaks? It seemed to me that most of the information regarding grand jury testimony has come directly from the witnesses themselves, which apparently is allowed. Looks like a ploy to muster up sympathy for Lancey-poo from the fanboy crowd.

Exactly.

Funny how LA's team isn't filing a suit against Floyd or Tyler. Nothing either of them had to say could be construed as "severely damaging" Lance's reputation. It's all those pesky leaks that are causing all the trouble. :D

There's nothing quite as entertaining as the statements these clowns insist on putting out. Gotta love 'em.

Weisel must be really sweating now and deemed it time to shut up Armstrong to try and save his own skin....seems a rather pathetic act of desperation by someone with lots of dollars

Bully, oui?

Interesting that landis kept mentioning that lance is a "bully" in the latest interview. And now the lawyers go after the investigation.

Funny that they blame novitsky for the leaks but they actually came from the attorney of one of the defendants. That guy lost his license and his career. Seems like the same old cheap spin.

Have you guys been paying attention?

How many times have we heard "according to an unnamed source close to the investigation"?

Many times.
Many many times.

That term has been used by 60 Minutes, Sports Illustrated, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Associated Press.

Lots of examples of leaks.
And this is SERIOUS.
We are talking about taking away a father's liberty.
No room for half-arsed leaks.

Is it possible to have a mistrial before the trial even begins lol?

It is another way to say "Witness"

Given the way Armstrong has smeared anyone that had questioned the myth over the years most can understand why they want to be "Unnamed"

Start naming the leaks that there are lots of examples of ..... Sure you are not one of LegWeak's legal team? "Dozens of occasions" - has a familiar ring, no??

"Was he munching from a white lunch bag and quoting Edgar Allen Poe.... ?"

"I would agree there was around 250 cyclists at the start and around 150 - 200 watching from the streets. My wife did get a few pics of Lance and the crowds of cyclists. Your second picture on the page, I am in the Radioshack gear on left of picture my son is in Black hoodie haha."

The report when from "1000's" to "about 250" to much less.

Yeah, but while witnesses in front of a grand jury are not legally obligated to maintain secrecy, witnesses are not informed whether they themselves are potential targets of a GJ investigation, most of the time it is in their interest to keep their mouths shut.

Federal grand jurors, grand jury court reporters and the prosecutors running the federal grand jury are under a strict duty to keep any “matter occurring before the grand jury” a secret. This duty is codified in Rule 6(e) of the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure. The rule of federal grand jury secrecy does not apply to federal grand jury witnesses . If you are a federal grand jury witness, you have the right to tell the whole world about your grand jury testimony. But some federal prosecutors attach cover letters to grand jury subpoenas, informing the witness that revealing the contents, or even the existence, of the subpoena “may impede” a criminal investigation.

Why would a George Hincapie leak to the press-but it has been widely reported that he testified. In addition, some federal grand juries have waiting rooms where multiple witnesses are invited to wait until they are called. In these situations, each witness is told, in effect, that the other witnesses waiting with him have been summoned to appear “before the grand jury.”

All BS tactics from the prosecution to try the case in the court of public opinion. Completely unethical and completely consistent with their past behavior. cf. Roger Clemens
