The TT finish is more of an uphill drag now while before it had a 2km at 9/10% climb so Pogačar is less likely to win this one.

The small bump on the road on stage 6 shouldn't make much of a difference unless its in a breakaway context.

It will decide the stage winner, it's quite steep: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.256...4!1sR9X7iaecoZkOaRMyj12pLw!2e0!7i16384!8i8192

I'm honestly a bit surprised about that change. Is Pogi getting the first pink jersey so important for drawing attention? I thought that at least through the first week the media will try to create a "can Van Aert actually take the fight to Pogacar" narrative. If Pogacar just wins the first two stages in a dominant fashion, even if Van Aert might still be in striking distance to take pink in the TT, there is no way this ever becomes a talking point. I mean, I don't think anybody here expects anything but a dominant Pogacar win for the gc, but usually organizers use that as an excuse to hide a riders dominance a bit, instead of doing the opposite.

The Livigno stage had to be changed, and now features the Mortirolo:

RCS Press Release: "Keeping Alpine passes such as the Forcola di Livigno safe would be a huge cost. For this reason, the Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Mobility of Graubünden (Switzerland) didn't accept the passage of the race.

Therefore, the 15th stage of the Giro d'Italia, Manerba del Garda - Livigno, is changed as follows: after climbing the Val Camonica, the race, having passed Edolo, instead of climbing towards Aprica turns towards the Mortirolo, which is climbed from the Monno side (maximum gradients only in the last kilometres at San Giacomo around 16%). The descent will be to Grosio and the climb up Valtellina to Bormio along the old road through Cepina. Climb of the Motte to Isolaccia followed by the ascent to the Foscagno Pass (14.6 km at 6.5%). After the short descent from Ponte del Rez (just before Trepalle), the route moves to the Eira pass, where the original route returns to the asphalt road along the Mottolino."

And there goes about the only good thing about this route...

Seriously, it's actually impressive how tragic RCS are these days, bowing to Hansen and co back at the 2020 Giro seems to have been a turning point. They desperately need a major shake-up.

They could do an awesome stage, Passo Croce Domini, Passo Gavia and then the Foscagno. Thatll be a similar distance and would make it a proper queen stage.

I fully expect them not to do Stelvio too. But we'll find out on the rest day.

What if it rains on that day?

I kinda doubt that the current crop of riders would be interested in riding 7 hours in the rain after the 2020 Giro was allowed to happen.

Well itsn't it more or less the same stage? Stage even looks a bit harder, so dno what all the complaining is about. If they wanted Gavia, they probably would have included it at first

ummm, that is a MAJOR change to the entire character of the race. UCI should not allow these types of last minute changes

The UCI can’t do anything about it - they can’t force roads to be opened, etc.

It is pretty ridiculous that they presented the initial stage, though, seemingly without ever really believing it would happen. There should be more regulations in place for race organizers when submitting routes, showing that they have approval before they do their presentation…

Sure, you may get more total desnivel+ but you go from having a bona fide HC penultimate climb that's very attackable to a 6% grinder where it's gonna be super hard to get a gap.

Now ofcourse we're gonna look at Pog and Pog can win because lol he has the one click 'i win' button this coming Giro, but these parcours changes are so big and so late it shouldn't just be handwaved away

Give Teddy 4500 m of elevation gain and he becomes slower than my grandma. Nairoman will show him how to climb then!

I really don't understand why people care so much about that. We've had Mortirolo from the super weak side wasted like 3 of the last 4 times now.
Thanks for the reminder. I need a Mümmelmann Jagdlikör for inner pice now! :D
