Do you know if they had any sort of new information or if they were speculating? Because I don't think there's been any news in a while, but they might have talked to the team directly.

I think Fergoose is reffering to what was said in the commentary box on ITV.

There the guy with glasses (forget his name, cycling author) talked vaguely about how Movistar have had a bad season because of what happened with Tondo and Soler.

He was trying to drill home the point about how difficult cycling is and how it must have had a very big effect on Movistar emotionally.

As such he graphically described how Soler "smashed his head at top speed into a rock" and may not fully recover, before saying that his fellow riders shared rooms with him and as such must be crushed.

He finished by saying its like boxing and just because the riders arent trying to knock eachother out its still dangerous.

So he was trying to paint a bleak picture of what can happen in cycling and it definately did not seem like he had any new info, especially since much of his commentary is geared at explaining things to new fans.

If that was the incident to which fergoose refers to, of course.

No ***. One of my neighbors kids ended up in the hospital after his 1-Ton truck rolled over the top of him from head to toe when he was getting out from under the truck (he was mechanicin under there on a bit of a slope). They had to airlift him to a more specialized hospital serveral hunderd miles away. When he woke he said to his parents with a surprised look on his face, "What, I'm still here". Yeah, his last thoughts were he thought he was a goner. He almost did not make it though, and the docs thought he was done because all his internal organs were shutting down and both lungs were collapsed. There was nothing more they could do for him. But someone was looking out for him... his lungs reinflated on their own and all his organs and vitals returned. He's still a mess and has many surgeries ahead to repair crushed hips and pelvis, plus some 6-8 months recovery to look forward to, but he's a bit more appreciative of what he's got now.

Wow I've only ever heard of anything like that happening once before. And that was on Star Trek.

That article has cheered me up no end, thanks for posting it and sorry if I have spread misinformation. The lad on ITV4 (Matt Rendell, who knows his Colombian cycling) said words to the effect of "he may struggle to even become the man he once was" - which sounded very grim to me and I took as meaning; forget about the cyclist, lets just keep fingers crossed for the human (and I'm sure the commentator also made a remark that wasn't completely positive about the recovery). But live studio and all, hopefully they just accidentally expressed it quite so morbidly. Easily done.

The latest news is that he had surgery last week to correct a nerve problem in his face that was preventing him from closing one eye, that was apparently successful. In general he is recovering bit by bit, the one problem seems to be that the edema (? I have little medical knowledge, less in Spanish, so a correction may be required) has not drained away as the doctors were hoping, and until it does he will not be able to leave hospital.

He and his wife were very moved by the gesture of Carlos Oyarzun before the TT on Wednesday:

I don't know Spanish but the word I see is trombo which I think is a thrombus/clot. It's near his heart so that sounds serious.

Thanks. Having looked it up, embolism was the word I was looking for. Basically there is still a clot on or near his heart, and when they checked last week they found that it had not reduced in size.

This is the original Spanish in more detail, from last week:

That's fantastic by Oyarzun.

Thank you for the updates Duartista. An embolism is very dangerous because if it breaks loose it will eventually get stuck somewhere, causing a blockage of blood to everything else downstream of where it gets stuck at. The severity depends on the size of the clot and where it gets stuck. So the hospital is the best place for him where they can put him on medications to reduce the size of the clot. So, best wishes to him and his family. And it is nice to see people still remember and are wishes him well.

According to the news, the clot is on vena cava. So the right part of the heart and the lungs are the next stops, if it "moves". Pulmonary embolism is an agonizing condition for the patient. Needs treatment ASAP. So... glad he's on hospital watch. Hopefully the situation will resolve.

Good hear he is still recovering, all be it slowly.

Wishing him well as always.

Would be good if he can recover well considered the year cycling has had in the way of tradegies etc.

Nice to hear that. Hope he get back to a normal life soon.

Considering he still has dizziness, what sort of exercise will he be doing.
