Tbh about 1'30 of that was motor pacing.

But that said, they arrive much fresher at the base of the climb these days because overall stages are just easier and Hourquette isn't very hard.
I'm trying to equivocate to myself too but I've come to the conclusion that it's over

In fact, it's even more over than the most over it's ever been, that being this photo of Adolf Hitler taken in March 1945.

The stage was almost 2 hours shorter than the one in 2001, but still.. It's almost not worth it thinking about it, everything is just ridiculous nowadays.

this Tour has been much harder overall than that one was before that stage though. especially yesterday was ridden super hard the whole stage.

LOL

The most doped doper that ever doped. The most turbocharged alien to ever sit on a bike.
I know you hate Pogacar, I have no illusion of the state of the peloton but yet we are for sure not in pre-Hematocrit level limit times, where a 75kg fatass like Mr. 60% Riis pulled climbing times that match today on worse material and training.

So far he will have to settle for being the strongest rider post the hematocrit rule, but he's still young; he'll be pushing those 90's watts soon enough.

Probably only because we have rules and tests that prevent that from happening nowadays.

He is literally sprinting up the mountain like pantani and armstrong on alpe ventoux. We watch that footage 15 years down the line and we say, how did everybody didn't know, that they were doped?

Maybe we will say the same about days like today

No, we hate the UCI who allowed the dirtiest people in cycling to organize this fraud again.
Well, if you have no clue whats going on, you can't do anything. It might also be UCI and WADA corruption (see Chinese swimmers) but in the 90s it was the same. Took some years to realize - "hey, this EPO stuff really is a gamechanger". I mean, Dr. Ferrari even did his famous "orange juice" press conference because it was not even prohibited.

Yet Pogacar keeps breaking climbing records from 90s. With a Giro in his legs. And having been in top shape for Strade and Liege too.

I think Riis definitely had less dope in his body than Pogacar has.

What a demonstration of power after two weeks of the Tour and three weeks of the Giro! If he manages to keep the jersey till the end it will be the most ridiculous season in modern era. He's been flying since that famous 81 km solo in Strade, which was like ages ago! Peaking for one event? Come on, why not for all?

Thanks God that he's a good boy that doesn't take shortcuts (in his own words) and the current generation of cyclists if trustworthy (according to Mauro)!

For sure, but thats what I am saying. I doubt this level of 90s doping will be reached again. That does not at all imply, that I think they are not doping.

It doesn't exclude that Pogačar could be dirtier compared to his opponents than Armstrong/Pantani were to Ullrich or Riis to Indurain, etc, if that was what Heston implied. Not that I really think that seems to be the case, but who knows?

I mean he barely beat by 30 seconds some skinny guy with one functional lung and a few broken ribs who was working in a fish factory before jumping on a bike and dominating 2 TDF's. That kid went straight from skinning fish to skinning GC winners, at least Pogi has some pedigree, style and he's a funny guy.
