let's just say i didn't do what I did last year and buy a gesink for 1400 points

had he done the ardennes tripple + GT triple and wc like I expected him to I would have owned ;)

I'm actually thinking of getting him now for 868, pretty hard for him to go below that this year, I expect him to be in decent form for the Tour and to destroy the Vuelta, WC and Lombardy! :p

Really good point. I have 10-11 to choose from and can fit about 4-6 in my team. Most of my riders are under 200.

Havetts I'd say that the 500 riders are still good to go with, 600 is getting a bit risky and 700's is dangerous. For example with my team Cunego was 600's and was a revelation whereas Anton and Roche were disasters.

Yea in this team I've got theres alot of below 200's, I've got only 4 above 500 on the list for now. :)

He is primed for a good 2nd half season. But I wonder if the loss of muscle strength might affect his performances. We'll see. In regards to gesink, I'd be thrilled to see him perform at all, regardless of CQ so I'm gonna give him a miss.

It'll ofcourse affect his performances the first half of the year, but hes already on the bike pretty carefully so I'm full of good hope that he'll do well in the 2nd half as he's alot fresher than the rest of the peloton :).

I picked Grieple for 1400 last time - it seemed a good idea at the time but was proven to be slightly dumb on my part.

I wont rule out a 1000 pointer or more but its unlikely at the moment.. need to do more research.

First of all, thanks! Second of all, yay.

So, was anyone else inspired by Wiggins_Fan last year? I must admit, I'm tempted to make a run for last place and create an all-Canadian team to honour my homeland.

I'm not really inspired by Wiggins_Fan, but I did have a lot of dutch riders. I will have quite a few again next year I predict, but I do make a team that's able to win :)

Seriously considering having one or two BIG riders if I can work them into the team. I suppose it comes down to potential return per cost and the likelihood of a return. One big head who underperformed last year might still break even if he gets injured for part of the season, and a whole bunch of neopros might just disappear for no reason. With my VDS team I think I made some sensible choices in terms of bargain riders, but I feel that not buying any of the top guys may have sort of capped my score. If you had Gilbert last year, then by that one selection you had a large portion of your budget giving a great return all year. I reckon you can hedge too much by just hiring minor riders.

I have a question. I'm not really sure about who's coming off what for doping purposes. While you've posted "special cases", can we get a list of dopers who are eligible (and those who are not), and what their cost is (or at least what year to use)?

I'm evaluating my team right now solely based on their 2011 points scored. I'd hate to find out someone I have down as a low number and a bargain was actually a returning doper. That's the only part of this contest that I find complicated.

Basically you can pick any rider who's not suspended or provisionally suspended at the beginning of the season.
David Garcia Dapena, for instance, is banned untill October 6 2012 and is thus not eligible.

Any rider who has been suspended for doping will have a value equivalent to that of his last full season.
Gabrielle Bosisio, for instance, was banned from September 2 2009 untill October 5 2011. His last full season was therefore 2008, so his value is 506 which he scored that season.

Any rider who has been involved in a doping case has a box with a "rider comment" on his page on CQRanking.com so it should be pretty easy to figure out if a riders value is not that of his 2011 season.

The "special cases" are only those who need further adjustment or comments added to them.

I do agree that this part is a little complicated (and I guess it is also complicated in real life), but I've tried my best to come up with a fair and transparent solution.
I would rather not publish a list of dopers and their values, because I don't want to influence anyone's team and I probably don't even have a full list of doping cases anyway.

If you have any questions regarding specific riders you're more than welcome to send me a PM and I'll tell you the riders value.

Hopefully this helped you out a bit, and if not, feel free to let me know :)

It's not the solution that's the problem. I simply don't know who's serving a doping suspension. I'm looking at riders based on points, their 2010 performance and 2011 performance. I simply don't know everyone who qualifies as a doper where I have to look at 2009 or 2008 or whatever number.

I'd rather just avoid them entirely to be honest (unless the numbers are so far off that I have to add the rider). I just don't see how I can tell from looking at CQ lists. **edit*** just noticed the "rider comment" that you mentioned. I'll try that.

Yeah, the "rider comment" is quite helpful - that should do it for you! I don't follow doping cases either, so I wouldn't know who's suspended if it wasn't for the "rider comment" :)

First go I got 33 @ 7351... 16 under 100. I don't know where I can spend more, I'm so top heavy as it is, but most of the 50-100s I actually prefer to the 100s-200s. Not going any lower than two neo-pros either.

Team's slowly coming together. Only thing is that I need confirmation of a certain rider that he'll be moving onto some other team for 2012 before I finalize.

This causes a big dilemma for me.

How can I do this without choosing my fave ... it makes cheering him on much more interesting

but @ 3168 points, thats almost half the budget, and realistically he isnt going to be worth it :)eek:)

logic v heart ... hmmmm

I have a similar problem, waiting to see where a rider will end up and what licenses teams are going to get. However I have chosen 33 at 7469 giving a small bit of room for a rider or two to pick up small points for the rest of the year.
I might also throw in a sort of random 0 pointer based on 1 performance and his name.

He could win M-SR and Tour of Flanders as well. He is also favourite for the WC. Then he just has to win the Nats, go okay at the olympics, Ardenees, Tour of Belgium/Eneco. He can also win a few stages at T-A. That would make for approximately 3800 points
