In North America, the relationship between reporters and athletes is too cozy, or at least it was when I was covering the sport on and off between 2000 and 2006. In those days, if a reporter even mentioned doping he risked ostracization. That's probably still true today. The remedy is to have on staff a reporter dedicated to covering doping. When did the cycling media(or any sporting media* ) ever do it's job? These guys cant even be called journalists, paste and copy monkeys.
*there are exceptions but few and far between the fans with laptops.
