It is if they can get them there. But even in this case Jonas has to be dropped. Otherwise is just a race for couple of bonus seconds.
If you have these guys and they aren’t available to draft pogi on the downhill, then what’s the point of having them there? It’s very likely a GC day, so there will be multiple attacks by pogi on the Galibier. Once over the top he will get no draft

All this talk about headwind is giving me etna vibes. Hopefully UAE launch and cause some carnage.
Thankfully this is the Tour and not the Giro, so we will have a quite good stage anyways instead of watching 3rd tier climbers battle it out and a complete stalemante in the GC-group. And even if Galibier turns out to be a disappointment, it should be a great early fight

I expect Tadej to attack on a steep section of the climb, and I expect Jonas to stay with him. I also think Jonas will counterattack, and Tadej will hang with him. They finish together down the hill.

On one hand, I understand if UAE decides to go all in for Pogačar but I think today is actually a good stage to try the multiple leader strategy and roll attacks on the steeper part of the Galibier with some of their leaders and then Pogačar ready to do one final blow. Alternatively they might also try to put Ayuso or Almeida in the breakaway to see how Visma responds to that.

I still think the most likely scenario is Pogačar to attack after UAE does a mountain train, Vingegaard is the only one capable to follow and Pogačar wins the sprints both at the top and at the finish line. I expect Carapaz to finish in the next group with Remco, Roglič, Rodriguez, Yates and Almeida.

Now I'm normally a Giro guy, but this is a good point in favour of the Tour. The peloton is always so stacked that any breakaway fighting for a stage is guaranteed to be made up of mostly quality riders.

The descent of Galibier (17.35 km) has two distinct sections.

The first section down to Plan Lachat is the steepest and most technical, it's the part where Pidcock bridged up to the break in 2022. He got the Strava KOM for that segment then, but Alaphilippe was 3" faster than Pidcock when he tried to save his yellow jersey in 2019.

The second section from Plan Lachat to Valloire is much simpler. Only a few switchbacks, and many long and straight parts. In the last part of it, it flattens and you need to pedal. It favours the bigger riders and is the reason why Norsgaard has the record for the full descent, as he was ~43" faster than Pidcock on this segment.

Beats me. I still don't understand how having 4 superdomestiques for climbing part would help (if Vinge is close to 100%).
