Great race from Iúri, this omnium format is just perfect for him and after his World title last year he now gets silver in the biggest stage.

Thomas was a bit lucky in the elimination but he is always a beast in the points race anyway.

Omerta? Ota was relegated for head butting. and I don't think the Brits have much of a leeway in Paris, looking at how home commissaires helped Benjamin Thomas in the elimination
This was referring to the second race, in which Carlin went over the red line in the sprint, which is against the rules. Of course, knowing how Cavendish got away with what can almost be described as assault many years ago in Rio, these do not seem to apply to Brits very often.

My thoughts on some earlier comments:

1. The officiating has been awful. By this stage we should be seeing some consistency and it's just not there, when one sees an infringement one just doesn't have a clue which way the decision will go (unless it favour Benjamin Thomas).
2. I am British, and I have no idea why Carlin wasn't relegated. I think it was accidental but it happened at the most vital point of the sprint.
3. The use of Adam Blyth is bizarre. I don't mind Blyth on road racing, he adds a lighter slant than some of the other commentators, and even if you don't like his delivery - he does provide insight. But to go to him in the centre of the velodrome and for him to say "I'm not a track cyclist so I don't really know but...." is pathetic. If Eurosport were merely recruiting from within then Orla and Dani Rowe would be a better bet.
4. The omission of some traditional races (individual pursuit) is - we are told - down to constraints in terms of time and the number of athletes. We could counter all of those quite easily:
  • Add time, we could easily add a couple of morning sessions here. There seems to be far less time for track cycling than there was for swimming.
  • Remove some of the small finals. Does anyone care who finishes 5th?
  • Allow no increase in athletes.
