Barker and Evans were strong enough to rip the field apart, but they only managed to do it when it was too late. Allowing the Dutch duo to take a lap was alright, but the Italians should never have been allowed to.

I think they first saw it when she took off her helmet. They had the right names in the end.
yeah, she also is on the start list published on the Olympics website. So it seems to have been an issue with the graphics only.

Despite Lavreysen just not knowing any competition, the cracks will undoubtedly show in the rest of the sprint team. Hoogland already said he's contemplating retirement, while Van den Berg wants to continue until LA, but the cracks are starting to show. He's already the weak link of the three and just cannot compete with Hoffman of Australia. The worst part is that there is no talent to take over the reins. It's likely they'll have to look elsewhere, and they've been in talks with Niek Kimmann. His background is in BMX, like Lavreysen and Hoogland, and where he was a world champion. My suggestion is to give Fabio Jakobsen a call for the third spot, and I ain't even kidding.

Six-time Olympic cycling champion on BBC TV

With that kind of top-end speed there's nobody on the planet that can touch Harrie Levreysen.

It was absolutely incredible to watch.

Consonni and Guazzini's interviews after the race have been really entertaining, there's a general feeling of "??? how did that happen" which in many ways is exactly what a good madison win should feel like.

Guazzini said they didn't really know how they wanted to go about the race, but decided it was best to stay at the front and out of the melée. Halfway through they realised they'd basically never been at the front, and always in the melée, and felt a bit lost. So, Guazzini attacked, had fun and embraced the chaos.

It does seem ridiculous that Carlin ended up with a medal after that, looking at the BBC site at the time it seemed even their commentators thought he was gone after the crash given he was already on a warning. I guess I would have felt even more sympathy for Hoogland if I hadn't seen what he got up to in his semi with Richardson.

Anyway, Lavreysen is clearly in a world of his own and the rest are fighting for scraps. Looking forward to the women's sprint which seems harder to call.
