From Veloclinic, just to be fair

"As it turns out, each meter of elevation difference is worth about .00037 W/kg. Belles Filles is has a relatively low mid-climb altitude so the estimate is bumped down from 6.5 to 6.3 naW/kg for Nibali.

Similar to the pVAM analysis the curve suggests that Nibali’s performance is above the average performances expected for this duration. However it is not as much of an outlier as Froome/Wiggins/Evans on the same climb in 2012. The estimate for that year (the blue dot above today’s points) comes in around 6.6 naW/kg when normalized for a standard rider and altitude. "

A few things to consider:

- 2014 stage was way harder, way more climbing
- weather was a lot worse this year
- in 2012 Nibali drafted during the whole climb, this time he attacked 3k out
- this year it was stage 10, 2012 stage 7.

Putting this into perspective Nibali is def stronger this year.

Or showing his ability more.

As hard as the stage was, the pace was relatively slow - instead of crazy fast as it was back then - until Nibali attacked. Scarponi is obviously no match for the Sky train when they were at the top of their game.

That pace certainly didn't hurt Nibali much, and explains the fast times in the last 3k, not just by Nibali, but by the Pinot-Valverde group, as well.

Something is in the air. While one can understand poor Brailsfraud telling all kinds of sht once the JTL final bust hit the fan (well timed after Vroomquit, good old UCI-customer team collaboration), and we've heard about that crappy and completely unnecessary "give Lance his wins back" (from 12 aging TdF winners with love) story, and now, absolutely unforced, even Nibs is getting into the bussiness of heartbreaking stories of "How a hardcore doper Vino tried to restore the credibility of famous juicing squad of Astana by forming italian group based on Pantani's manager and ban-proven doper Scarpo (Ferrari+Fuentes)". Shows how little (few presser questions) is needed to get them into this strange defensive mode when they try to find some supporting arguments... and come up with this.

"The mother of the imbecile is always pregnant". That's the quote of the decade:D:D:D, and apropos in SOOOOOOO many situations. In fact, sitting here at work, I can see how much that applies here. :p

Nibbles attacks like this and its definite dark days like LA.

Froome does it and its ok, cycling is cleans

Froome had a tailwind. Nibali would have beaten him just like Horner.
