I think it matters a bit to at least have someone there to help you with tempo. I know running is easier alongside someone, and there’s no drafting there either (not at my speeds, anyway). Also, picking up the speed after the crest is easier on the wheel of someone with fresher legs. It all adds up, and if he’d been alone Roglic might have lost 10 or 15 more seconds, probably wouldn’t have got back to Martin’s wheel, etc.

Even looking at the Giro last year for Carthy, over the 3 TTs he's slower than Carapaz. They finished on same in TT 1, he gains 20 seconds on TT 2 and lost 40 seconds on TT 3.

Also, Kuss was really strong in last year's Vuelta for Roglic, so his progression this year isn't completely out of nowhere.

Might just be because I'm Danish, and therefore has that focus, but is this a case where, for a guy like Valverde, it hurts a bit more to be dropped by some random kid from Hillerslev (yes, exactly; where?) than if he'd been dropped by someone like Froome?

Well he is 40 and has been racing at this level for basically 2 decades against riders from at least 5 different generations (including his own). I'd guess it doesn't because it's likely he has been dropped at different points by random riders from places he's never heard of before. Plus this year (aside from the standard answer some athletes have done of it's 2020) his answer to someone like that would be I'm 40, what exactly are you expecting from me.

2:45:18. The finish was 3:28:55

So it's like 45:45 not what Belli says.

Yeah, right, but usually Tour of Utah field is not that impressive. Or I must recheck it, I don't remember the whole field!
I'm just saying that he is becoming a monster in TJV, I'm not denying the fact he had some potential back in that time. And yeah, it's some whiny stuff but it's really annoying for the show that he is working for Rogla!

2020 gave us Dennis conducting battle between Hart and Hindley for Giro win, and 7 riders in 3 groups in under half-a-minute in Angliru. A year of downscaling, at least a bit for every thing.
