The thing, you might be able to make the jump but you just waste su much energy with it that you'll probably be useless in the end

I don’t understand how a rider would be able to have such massive fluctuations in form to lose 27 minutes yesterday and then win from the break here, even if some of that 27 mins was taking it easy.

Happens al the time. Take it easy on one stage to go in the break on the next. Nothing to do with form, just management of effort. (The first few minutes Evenepoel lost yesterday were form: I doubt the rest were. Also very premature to say he will win from the break here)

UAE have two in-between riders that probably won't make it, if Soler or Almeida have the condition/recovery to go long it could be very interesting.
