This is a race with radios. When there are no radios that might be excusable, especially on a final climb where there isn't the opportunity for the team car to give that info it's one thing, but when you can just check that with the DS, falling for that trick reflects poorly on the victim more than the perpetrator.
Thomas also finished 3 minutes down I doubt he was still there when they picked up the breakaway

No reason for Jumbo to do anything near the finish. They knew they were going into the Red jersey and they had Roglic for the sprint. Another tidy day's work.
Please spare us from such accountant's logic riding. That they were dominant in the lead group and they didn't try anything with their two main riders tells me that said riders actually couldn't do much more.

Vingegaard isn't in great form, that much is clear, and for Roglic it made sense to wait for the sprint. So the only one left to attack was Kuss, and he did.

no world tour in merckx time. lol. and about 4 ITTs for every GT and a TT in every week-long race.

haters always want to shift the goalposts when confronted with unpleasant facts.

haters were in awe when pog hit 50 early this season at age 24+.

haters cannot stomach remco bettering him now (despite losing an entire year of potential wins!)

bwahahaha.
You are a Pog and Merx hater.

The Remco boy crush is strong in this one. :)
He soft-pedalled. Whoever he is. I just observe and watch a race.
Maybe you should try as well.

Watch the replay and keep playing until you notice.

Get used to commentators talking about his post-race interview tomorrow, the whole day. It will hurt your ears probably.

nah.

pog is the best rider right now (how do you reconcile that one?) and exciting to boot - hard to warm to, however.

merckx is the rider that got me interested in cycling decades ago. and will remain the greatest rider ever as eras are impossible to compare (how do you reconcile that opinion)? however, i do not think the man lives up to the champion. lemond was the opposite. the man was greater than the champion.

just pointing out that remco will likely make it to 50 wins before either of those other great riders did. important that the haters hear the facts when they badmouth him constantly.

you see, one can be nuanced, even on an internet forum.

It's starting to become a bit laughable, all these excuses when Remco doesn't win. It's okay, he's not Superman (and I don't mean Lopez). It seems like he has to justify every loss to himself and his fans go along with this.

You win some, you lose some. Grow up.

It's not an excuse, it's an observation. I'm not saying he would have won.

I am saying he didn't know and didn't even try to come around. You can clearly see this, read about it later tonight, watch the replays on youtube and you will probably hear lanterne rouge saying the same thing.

I consider it as a very low-level attempt as depicting someone as being a fanboy while all I do is state some facts. Again, if he knew he was sprinting for the win he would maybe not have won it either. Maybe he would have backed off and someone like e.g. Ayuso would have tried to attack, or he would have been sitting too far back (now he was too far in front), etc.

Maybe just get over this fact, as it clearly spoils the victory for Roglic in your eyes. For me it stays the same. Roglic won deservedly, Remco was stupid.

I thought samhocking was referring to Thomas having said that this is something Jumbo/Rogla have done before rather than that they did it today, since there were still riders off the front, if only Costa and Lazkano and they were soon to be brought back, when the cameras picked up the stragglers and Thomas was already struggling to hang on then.

There's bonus seconds to gain, even if there's someone ahead. He sprints for them in the middle of a stage so why not at the finish line.
he thought there were more than enough riders still up the road so he didn't think there were bonus seconds.
And again, it's stupid from Remco not to sprint just assuming something (better be safe than sorry), but it's quite tiring to hear the Remco haters try fill the discussion with poison, as per the reaction below
Remco fans are f*cking insufferable jesus christ. he lost, get over it.

Evenepoel sprinted. He lost, then he raised his hand in disbelief. He then told reporters he was a literal idiot because he thought riders were ahead... which somehow made his defeat not a defeat because there's no way he would have lost the stage had he know the win was up for grabs. Obviously.

So all is well on #teamevenepoel, for his fans as well. L'honneur est sauf, as the French say. I'm sure everyone can now sleep well tonight, i.e. Jumbo got what they wanted (the stage win + the jersey) & Evenepoel is still the best mountain sprinter in this Vuelta.
