With regards to Warren, he is who he is, nobody's second-coming, just a great rider who rode like a champion at this year's TdF. Regardless of the conspiracy theories, he is the most combative rider, including when mixing it up with the big fishes.

It's funny to read some people's reactions. Between those who feel insulted and who points out that he is not virenque (but really? :lol: )
It is clear that I am referring to the type of rider. I believe barguil can rethink the career of virenque: a fighter, a strong climber who can go hunting for stages and polkadot jerseys. I do not exclude more important results in terms of GC but I do not see the consistency to become a GT specialist.
So It's my opinion (as i early said) :razz:

Agree, I am very surprised he went this route. On the one hand it will essentially be hist team, but what is the point if it limits his racing opportunities?

I think that he's aware of his limitations GC-wise and wants to focus on KOM, stages. Seen in that light, TTT losses won't hurt him that much. Once he's 10 minutes behind, his race really starts. He can become the darling of the French public, get his stage win every July, polka-dot, be based close to home: the good life.

These are professional contracts, they're not spit-and-a-handshake deals between mates. It's a business.

If Sunweb are getting compensated by Barguil's new employers, they're presumably very happy to let him go. Especially if Barguil's departure will free up salary in their budget to bring in a climber or two to support Dumoulin or a classics Dom/leadout man for Matthews.

Fortuneo have also signed Moinard from BMC, (and that's all we've heard of 2 days into transfer season) so it looks like this is a case of the team setting their sights higher, rather than the rider setting his lower.

But that's not really what he's been saying though is it? As far as I can recall, he has still been talking about wanting to be mostly a GC man.

He can't say otherwise, or the French "fans" would crucify him.
