2003 - Sutrio
2007 - Ovaro
2010 - Ovaro

For 2011 both sides are possible. Before the Zoncolan they'll have to climb the Crostis, also known as Panoramica delle Vette. This steep road starts from Ravascletto or Comeglians. So it is still possible to do the Zoncolan from both sides.

Crostis from Ravascletto
Crostis from Comeglians

This stage will be short and brutal. After Crostis, they will enter Zoncolan in small groups of riders.

yeh doesnt matter which way they tackle the Zoncolan it will do damage, frankly Anton would easily be the Giro favorite unless there is a long tt, a climb like zoncolan would suit him beautifully

Crostis from Comeglians before the Zoncolan will be brutal beyond any Gt stage since before 2000, 13.5 km of Crostis at 10% before 10 km of Zoncolan at 11.9% is savage with massive time gaps

Wow, that Comeglians side is huge, almost as steep as Mortirolo if you don't count the false flat at the start.

Thanks for sharing your supreme knowledge of Italian routes once again.

Cima Coppi 2011...

Seems to be Giau, Fedaia and Rifugio Gardeccia or Torri del Vajolet.

That is insane. 230km, Piancavallo, Sant'Osvaldo, Cibiana, Giau, Fedaia and Torri del Vajolet. Add in the false flats and that's close to 6,000m of climbing. The only slight disappointment is the gap between the end of the Fedaia and the start of the Torri del Vajolet, but on such a tough stage it shouldn't matter too much.

Thats a good stage, the thing i like about the giro is that the main attacks often happen on small climbs and on massive ones even if they are still at 40k to go

I was about to say, that looks like Fedaia there with the flattened off top. I love that climb, one of my favourites.

Given that the Giau is the Cima Coppi, that rules out the inclusion of the Stelvio, Agnello, Gavia, Fauniera, Forcola di Livigno, Foscagno, Sampeyre or Pordoi.

One of these years the Fauniera-Sampeyre double must be used again. It's too good to leave it out for all this time.

Just be glad they don't climb it from the other side, a paved road up, and then a dirt road on the way down.

A rumoured route is making the rounds in Italy.

it includes sterrato on stage 5, the Montevergine on stage 6, the Etna on stage 9, the Grossglockner on stage 13, the Crostis and Zoncolan on 14, the stage whose altimetry we've seen is 15, a finish on the San Pellegrino on the 18th, the Finestre and Sestriere on the 20th and two TTs on the 16th and 21st

7 mountain top finishes?

That's one plausible rumor worth repeating.

Considering we know for a fact, from word of god, about 5 of them plus several other details, if it's not going to be this route then it's going to be 95% the same...

Grossglockner with Giau as the Cima Coppi? 95% the same, really?

Finish at Kasereck, at 1900m.
In other words, the actual Grossglockner, not the Grossglockner plus the Franz Josef's Höhe that is usually all called "Grossglockner" ;)

Again: It's a rumour, but a plausible one. Other than that stage and the S. pellegrino stage, the main features of the route are what have already been confirmed by the organizers.

Brutal...

Is the Grossglockner the same as the stage Ricco won this year in Austria?
