Alpe d huez in the giro :eek:. That will probably be their week 1 warm up before the real mountains of the 3rd week.;)

It will be interesting to see what crowds they get when its the Giro.

Interesting news this.

Lets hope the France returns the favour and we get the Zonc in the Tour. Or Mortirolo, though preferably Zoncolan. Come to think about it, would be nice to have 3 or 4 days in there, Stelvio, Kronplatz etc.

All those climbs are in the far East for the Tour :D

Finestre and Fauniera are closer to the French border and would be more than enough ;)

I thought that too. But then again, the Vuelta started in Holland last year about 1000km out. The Giro started there too, about 700km out. The big Italian alps, are about 400km out from France. The problem would be going there AND back since your not going to start there, but then again travel a few hundred km between stages and your fine.

Really? the Alpe is usually well raced. Even in the Tour.

Well you could always start with the Zoncolan in the first stage, as a mountain time trial as a prologue :p

Although I think only the Giro would be crazy enough to start with that

A lot of people seem to be coming up with different rumours from the same route. Very much a climbers course obviously.

When does la vuelta announce it's route?

Throw in Ricco, Pozzovivo and Sella and if any of those are riding in the mountains then you get an unpredicatable race.

Well, it seems a bit insane said like that, but it's not like they are riding trying to avoid lava like in a movie.

Complete bollocks.
The Giro has huge historical importance. For many years it was far bigger than the Tour. Only in recent decades has the situation reversed. Not so long ago, the Tour had difficulty in fielding a full peloton.
Insignificant, is a total insult.

Are you joking.. For many the Giro has far more tradition, and romance to it than the tour.

The tour may be older, but certainly over the last 30 or so years all the tour has become is a formulaic race, where one rider sees to be able to dominate for several years.. Merckx, Hinault, Indurain, armstrong, Contador. The tour basically has the same three or four landmark climbs it revisits on a yearly basis, ventoux, tourmalet, alpe d'huez, while the giro every year offers something different, and often something new.

Sorry but give me Bartoli, Coppi, or Gimondi wearing pink over Hinault wearing yellow any day of the week.

You couldn't be more wrong. As Dim and mellow velo so perfectly described
especially to most Italians, the tour will never be as important as the Giro
