If the others really allow breaks to go so the likes of Buitrago get back within 1 minute of the pink jersey. To create a situation where Quick Step has to work alone all day, Evenepoel is isolated on Crans Montana & Monte Bondone and later on they attack him left and right on Giau, like Ullrich was on Galibier... Then Evenepoel better gets that precious seconds today. They could be useful in the end.
Roglic and Evenepoel are the best climbers. Again, the question is which other climbers will be able to keep up with Remco and Roglic, not the other way around. Remco and Roglic are better climbers than Vine, Hindley, Vlasov and Hart.
I think this is by far the best scenario for Remco; ship the jersey but take time on GC. I think if he's feeling good he has to stick the knife in when/if he can; you cannot waste this kind of form riding conservatively. That said the false flat to the finish really suits him if he can get through the top of the climb with a gap and theoretically could take a nice chunk of time today without trying to be a hero too early. Team strategy will be very important; I really hope multiple teams decide to make it a hard day. I personally really like this profile and think we're in for some great racing.
I would think the best move in either scenario is Soudal just letting the break grab pink.
I am not 100% sure Roglic and Evenepoel will outclimb guys like Vine or Vlasov in the queen stage (or better: stages). Those are climbs that Remco hasn't faced before, and while Roglic has a more proven track record of Alpine giants, the last time he could show to the world he was climbing with the best on climbs above 2000 meters that are reasonably steep (so no Sierra Nevada gradients), was...? 2020?
Why has Hindley been mentioned in both posts? He's not riding the Giro.
