As for RTE/Ireland, I think Dan Martin ought to win it, would love it if Martyn Irvine did win it, have come round to believing Rob Heffernan will win it. McCoy, bizarrely enough will not.

I hope for Heffernan's sake that he doesn't win it. He needs to keep his head down after that racist tweet he sent last month.

The "apology" from his management bothers me. It doesn't even come from him personally.

"Sorry if anyone was offended" is NOT the same as "sorry I said something so awful".
Even worse, "Sorry if anyone was offended by the crude language" is not the same as "Sorry if anyone was offended by the content."

Not sure on that. It's not like Brailsford hasn't known what sort of ar$e Wiggins is.

It's just funny it happens days after he got new PR people. Well, it makes me laugh anyway.

A good point well made.

On a 'fanboy' level I'd love Dan Martin to win; Part of me really wants Martyn Irvine to win, because it's easy in Ireland to overlook a trackie, but he turned down the BC megolith, and then did something extraordinary at the worlds, then crashed, then came back at the World Cup - just a lovely story. Plus he comes across as a good bloke.

So long as it ain't GAA, I'll cope. Don't get me wrong, I love my football (An Dun abu, and all that), but it just feels so insular when a GahMan gets lauded. #stupidculturalcringe

Not sure there's really much distinction there - I doubt the request for fellatio was genuine. It was a crude, offensive, unfunny joke - typical of the d*ck that he is - but I'm not sure there's much milage in separating the content from the language - it was all one rude disgusting clusterf*ck

We can safely say, however, that the post 2012 spiral is not done yet. Which, given the time frame suggests Wiggins is done entirely. He'll see out the (huge) contract, collect his silver, and then just f*** off. Hopefully.

that'll be celebrated as a victory for clean cycling, no doubt.

Takes the golden biscuit. Has to be the last cyclist Knight of the Realm for many many years. Unless Sir Dawg? surely not.

I'd say a Dame pendleton is a fair bet in the medium future, along with Adlington,Dujardin (and Trott actually could beat them all if she does another double).

If Jason Kenny were to get a Hoy Hatrick in Rio, to get to 6 golds, would be hard to deny him as well.

Froome is well, well down the list.

More generally AP MCCoy would be my next most likely - if he'd accept.

He asked a presenter at an event in support of victims of sexual abuse to "suck him off".

You may think the content doesn't matter, but the context sure does.

I'm sure someone can go all Godwin on us and come up with an appropriate analogy...

The French with their comedy syringes have no place in this world.

Wiggo asking sexual abuse victims to "suck him off" is cool.

My god.

He didn't ask sexual abuse victims to 'suck him off' he asked the presenter at the awards, obviously he was completely out of line but lets not change what actually happened.

Hog - you get the benefit of doubt that that was a genuine misquote. Leave it at that please.

Cyivel - nothing wrong with your reply but wanted to nip in the bud.

Perhaps we misunderstand each other. I don't think the content doesn't matter, so much as the content and the profanity were frankly equally bad. I think my contempt for the episode in toto is quite clear, to be honest.
