I think the assessment that this Tour has killed of most of the participant is more than fair.

that assessment does not mean that Remco’s performance today wasn’t super impressive though. It was an extremely impressive performance.

He certanly has a powerful motor. It will be interesting to watch how he can perform on this years Vuelta.

You're absolutely right but the state of mindless hype around Remco makes every discussion impossible.

One just has to look at PCS and compare the startlist with the actual top 10 and all the following time gaps. The big names are not even showing up.

Of course the kid was lucky not to have to deal with a peloton in an acceptable shape.

I had to stop watching on the penultimate climb (had to do other things). I however saw Remco dropping Yates on this penultimate climb.

Did Simon Yates crash afterwards, or have another problem? He seems to be in really good shape, but still lost 3:28 minutes to Remco…

Today‘s race was a little bit a mirror of all of Simon‘s career…: He‘s good, gives us hope, then a disappointment happens. He‘s still a good/great racer, I admit. ;)

...and yet he dropped a well-rested and in demonstrably fine form simon yates right off his wheel on a climb.

literally no one is saying that this means remco will win or even podium a GT ever.

please tell me the name of one other rider in today's peloton who could have done this?

only pog.

well, remco appears to be in pretty good company then.

the haters are so way overboard in their hate. and i have to suggest that they need to rethink their supposed enjoyment of the sport if they cannot enjoy such a performance and what it means we will get to enjoy for years to come...

it was an incredible ride absolutely crushing the pro peloton, apparently with ease.

Nah! The "strong opposition" field and performances of the others were pretty weak. Pretty much a nailed on Remco win.

Mollema and Bennot are really strong over this kind of terrain and Sivakov is no slouch either and yet they lost minutes to Remco. Of course he will have to fight against a stronger opposition in the Vuelta but he didn't beat a bunch of nobodies.

Special mention for Masnada who finished 50th out of 60 on almost 11 minutes in this Mickey Mouse race.
And yet we still have folks making the argument that he should have been team leader today…or rather we did until today’s demonstration. :D

I couldn’t watch the race but reading this thread made up for missing the race! Thanks for the entertainment! :)

Actually thread is more entertaining that race itself ever was ;)

Commentators tried the "if the followers work together on descent and flat part of last 40 kilometres" making it more exciting but it was evident that Remco was simply too strong for the field.
