Gob smacked by this one, the cynical in me says Armstrongs goodbye pressie to the Peleton.

It does not seem like a drug anyone would use in the context of the tour. Clenbuterol is a big hitter in terms of Asthma and additionally it should have shown up in other tests ie the following day because him and Andy would have been tested at the top of the Tourmalet. If it was found in anything other than a trace level then that counts out food contamination.

Either way, I suspect he's bolloxed.

Maybe he's going to turn grass for a reduced sentence, a three month ban for nailing the Armstrong/Bruyneel cell door firmly shut!!

If this is an accident then why didn't he declare. It seems funny that when Lance tested positive due to the saddle cream, people on here have said it is a cover up for epo. When Contador tests positive for Clenbuterol it is an accident.

There are also other informal reports on localized food contamination cases by clenbuterol in the U.S., which led to setting rules that limit consumption of this medicine only to horses.[4]

In February, 2009, at least 70 people in one Chinese province (Guangdong) suffered food poisoning after eating pig organs believed to contain clenbuterol residue. The victims complained of stomachaches and diarrhea after eating pig organs bought in local markets.[5][6]

I think there is a reasonable chance he will get off. There is a grey area on the issue of contaminated meat. The UCI have allowed him a month to prepar a PR defense so I don't think they are too keen to go after him.

May I suggest a lowering of your excitement levels over this? Relishing in someones downfall equates to being a vulture - simply waiting to pick at the carcass. Until someone proves that this is indeed doping, we'll need to give him the benefit of the doubt. You would expect nothing less for yourself.

However, this situation may not prove to be what many will hope it becomes - full proof of Contador being doped up to the eyeballs. It would be a shame, but I never have liked that whole pistol thing he does when he wins.

A benefit of this drug is it instantly helps you. So if you're feeling bad on one stage, you take the drug the next morning and it will help you that day. However EPO takes eight days to work and requires a series of injections so planning when you need to take it is haphazard, and blood transfusions were just too dangerous this year.

We know that Contador was struggling in this years tour so the temptation for a quick fix must have been overwhelming.

possible but a very small probability as clenbuterol is the granddaddy of peds detected so easily that one has to be incompetent to count on it during the tour.
