Hopefully he gets a performance-incentivized contract on a pro conti level and can take it from there. Savio or Bjarne would be both very cool options. It is quite unfortunate how he has declined in the last 3 years, but sport business is cruel and tough, and top athletes in general are either well-oiled machines or one injury away from being put down like a dog.

Talk on Gazzetta:

Google translate:
There is an offer from Vini Zabù-Brado-Ktm for Fabio Aru.
.... In the meantime the interest of the team manager's team needs to be registered Angelo Citracca
(for which Giovanni Visconti will no longer race, having switched to Bardiani-Csf-Faizanè. Luca Wackermann, who moved to Eolo-Kometa di Basso, is also out.)
Aru won the 2015 Vuelta and finished the Giro d'Italia twice on the podium, 3rd in 2014 and 2nd in 2015.
He was fifth in 2017 at the Tour, the year in which the last success dates back (stage of La Planche des Belles Filles).
And if the team headed by Luca Scinto were the relaunch team?
For now, this step forward must be recorded.
We'll see.

He cost Landa a potential Giro d'Italia victory, because he was about to get dropped by Trofimov and would've lost his podium spot if Astana had chased down Contador & Hesjedal on a hilly stage.

Aru never was consistent neither has he ever been blessed with much talent or character.

Aru's inconsistency till 2017 was good enough for multiple GT podiums and top5 in down years.

Aru's current inconsistency is being dropped by a full peloton in a flat stage.

Spot the differences.

His Tour was horrible.

But the below are not results of a rider that is finished:

He was 12th GC Colombia, 9th GC Burgos and 10th GC Tour de l'Ain.

5th Mont Ventoux Dénivelé Challenge.

21th Gran Piemonte.

DNF Lombardia.

Those are the races he took part in 2020.

The question is his motivation. If he still has ambitions left. What his body can do. If a team will give him a chance somewhere.

He's riding the WC!
Why, he finished 10th at the NC and Italy has only 5 spots.
I get that Italy doesn't have too many good CX riders besides Bertolini and Dorigoni, but still.
The national coach Scotti is selecting him to get some headlines, the guy seems to be an unpleasant person and gets really butthurt if riders actually focus a lot on MTB during the summer, in my opinion he's the worst of all the Italian cycling related national coaches.

He won't ride the WC.
Currently doing a training camp with Qhubeka Assos.
