What about Team RadioShack? Would they call the media types and tell them to keep it quiet? Dangling a little future access to a couple of brothers in July?

Beat me to it. Didn't USPS or at least Lance have a de facto blacklist back in the day?

I don't think the NYT, the Washington Post or just about any other US news service gives two ****s about covering a couple Luxembourgers in tights riding their bikes in France.;) The Armstrong / Bruyneel story about doping would get more reads than the entirety of the TDF coverage at the New York Times.

My thoughts exactly. Access to the Schleck brothers? In the US, hardly anyone has heard of them anyway. Everyone's heard of Lance.

That is a bit silly BB. seriously.

How about RadioShack has enabled mind erase software in the RadioShack Tour Tracker presented by LiveStrong. By the end of the Tour of California, no one will even care were Johan was. Kind of like it is now already lol.

Yes, and Frankie A. was specifically requested by Armstrong to do post-stage interviews for Versus (to provide the appearance of fairness).

But money is green, and we all need it.

The NYT, WP don't give two ****s about anything post-Lance, so they're not the ones asking about Johan. But the cycling media WANTS TO KNOW.

But the cycling press also wants to get the Schleck interviews during July. Me thinkst that they won't get those interviews if they keep

asking questions about missing team managers

Men's Journal might do an article with Johan? He can take his shirt off and show his Belgium beer gut?

The story is all over Twitter buts what's interesting the Slowtwitch forums deleted 3 threads that were based on the arrest.

Arrest? There has been zero indication of an arrest,

I have sources close to the matter who has reported that sources close to the investigation will be reporting soon.

I'd say its going to be more of a story in July than now.

Watch this space.

As per the weekend lets see if Horner & co. get their refills. I wouldn't risk it if I was them.

At the moment nobody knows who to trust.

Even Jens is talking retirement now. He wants out.

RSNT is sad sinking ship.

So you think the cycling media would pass on a story about a scandal involving the most well known DS and a 7-time TDF winner in order to ensure they can talk to Frank and Andy?

Really?

Question for the USA legal-eagles here:

If one were to observe a person receiving a Grand Jury subpoena, and Grand Jury proceedings being considered secret, would the press be obligated NOT to report on it?

Obviously they reported on observed situations of witnesses emerging from the Armstrong GJ.

Looking for legal reasons why the media might be so quiet on this issue.

Legal-shmeegal.

Look at it from the perspective of someone trying to make a living as a reporter, perhaps cycling is one of her beats. Let's say our intrepid reporter has fantastic luck and is there at the scene.

She's got a story no one in the cycling media will print for fear of advertisers leaving. She's got a story no one in mainstream media cares about. The story won't get bought and she won't give it away to NYVelocity because she's got to eat.

Our intrepid reporter has credentials for ToC. No one at the UCI or Anschutz wants the story mentioned. No bad stories allowed. Pursuing it is breaking the attempt at suspension of reality. Worse than that our intrepid reporter is now viewed inside cycling media as "hostile" if she pursues this any more.

No one from professional media is going to be the Fourth Estate at a very minor event. BTW, the cyclingnews people do as well as can be expected in this regard.

Yes, absolutely.

I can't see any "legal reasons" why they should be blocked from talking about it, and I can't see any "forgetfulness" reasons either.

What we have here, is a pretty big matzo-ball hanging out there.

I doubt that the NYT or Washignton Post, heck even the NY Post give a s**t about the Tour of California or have anyone assigned to cover it so I'm not sure how they would even know. Even the Tour gets pretty sparse coverage in the US. There's NBA playoffs, hockey playoffs, preakness, baseball, Tim Tebow, bountygate, golf, tennis. It's a lot to wade through for the mainstream press before they get to this.

I have heard of no effort to kill the story.....just that nobody will talk. No RSNT staff or PR people will discuss it and nobody as seen Johan since last Saturday.

I expect that shortly there should be some coverage of his disappearance

OK then, I guess we'll have to disagree there.

Well, Occum's razor provides another explanation: No one's talking about it b/c no one can learn anything about it from the parties involved.

It's still news and if there is a story that can be at all substantiated it will be published. I'm just guessing that everyone involved is keeping their trap shut...when there can be a reliable source it will definitely be reported.

If Johan is here on some kind of work visa, then he should actually be working, right? Perhaps someone needs to give I.C.E a call.

My point has been (for several days) that Johan NOT BEING WITH HIS TEAM is (in and of itself) a story. A story that has gone untended. Just printing THAT would sort of force RadioShack to at least acknowledge his lack of presence.

If @pelotonpundit is a legitimate Twitter feed, Bruyneel is at the Giro. I have no idea who Peloton Pundit is....

Johann arrives on Wednesday, meets with the Feds on Friday, Charity Dinner on Saturday, back home on Sunday. Wonder what he did on Thursday? Meet with the backers of the New Cycling League? It is sounding more and more like the meeting with the Feds was prearranged. Time management skills are another trait of a Genius DS. Time is Money.

PS....radios are allowed at the Giro right?
