One of the greatest Tours ever.....and Armstrong was completely irrelevant. The sport has moved on.

Lance is not raceradio, you know.
Even when he visits you virtually on daily basis and is always in your mind.
Give him a virtual hug from me please. Pretty jealous.
I think you have someone walking next to you. Thats what we say in Germany. :D
Lance was completely relevant during this Tour and always present in coverage, to remind of his legendary and unreached performances - epic rides and Tours.

Passage du Gois - Lance
Voeckler yellow - Lance
Luz Ardiden - Lance
Plateau de Beille - Lance
decent to Gap - Lance
Alpe d'Huez - Lance
etc.

This Tour had Lance all over it. Tour de Lance. Well deserved. True legend. True racing. Anyway, Lance really liked this Tour, too. Epic. Epic visit at the RS teambus. Massive crowds. The Lance-factor.

Lance everywhere - like in your head. lol
Did I already mention to give him a hug from me ? ***n edited by mod ***

I know german humor doesn't enjoy the best of reputations, but that's not yet a reason to copy Polish in every single one of your pro-Lance/anti-RR posts. It's what the germans would call Plagiat:D

i feel a bit sorry for the back half of the peloton, last year they had so much face time due to spending most of the race riding alongside lance, this year with all the action up front, their friends and family would have hardly known they were in the race.

You think it's a Plagiatsaffäre ?
I wouldn't even try to copy Polish, because, like everyone who ever tried, you can only fail.
Poland is next to Germany. We might have something in common.
Besides that, thing is, if anyone steals something, then it's the Polish stealing things from Germans. Many jokes about that, and I wonder...does German humor even exist ? Never heard about that, dear sneiper.
The only people associated with humor are the British I think. Never heard of any humor elsewhere.

I will try anyway:
What is Polish Triathlon ?
Go to lake, swim, and then ride home by bike.

Please don't laugh. Could be a German making a joke....sorry, trying to make a joke.

Fun talk from Lance in Aspen:

Armstrong said the U.S. government has never indicated that he is under investigation on any doping allegation. He questioned why it is an issue of concern to the government.

The heart of the investigation, he said, appears to focus on his actions while in the Tour de France nine to 12 years ago: “Let's just assume that everything that's said is true. What's next? Are we going to start policing cricket or things overseas?” Armstrong asked. “You laugh because it seems absurd.”

Joyce Carp of Old Snowmass said she hopes he didn't dope. But even if he did, his work to bring hope and relief to cancer victims and their families far overshadows it, she said.

“I find it a little shocking that he was never notified” about the government's doping investigation, she said.

This has gone off topic (my fault I admit), so let's just move on.

I'm going to delete my original post. If you can delete yours too Mark and Benotti, that would be good. Or maybe a mod can help out here.

Holy shlock, Batman! Guess we won't hear Scott Condon or the Aspen Times ever mentioned in the same sentence as "Pulitzer."

He endeared himself to the audience by saying Aspen is one of the special places in the world that can never be re-created.
Armstrong's conditioning hasn't suffered from retirement:
Armstrong also acknowledged helping bring pro cycling back to Colorado.

Shine people much, Scott? Then again, given the disparity between Apsen and reality, no wonder they love him there!

Its ok to feel sorry for the back half of the peloton,
but remember Lance finished in the Top25 last year.

Even with all of his crashes and mechanicals, Lance still finished ahead of
Cadel, Wiggins, Cunego, Basso, Rolland and Voeckler

And Hey Cobblestoned - welcome back!
Flicker was posting a couple days ago I think - but got re-banned sigh.
It is like kicking a puppy dog, banning and re-banning flicker.

Anyway, did you hear the one about the Polish soigneur?
Team Mróz-Active Jet I believe.
He locked the car keys inside the Team Car:(
It took him an hour and a half to pry the door open to free the Team Mechanic and Director.

This says it all about Aspen, where even my softest skiing buddies won't return unless compelled by business:

He endeared himself to the audience by saying Aspen is one of the special places in the world that can never be re-created. He and his family spend summers in their home in the West End. He said he appreciates that people in Aspen give them their space.

“I wasn't born here. I wasn't raised here. I got here as soon as I could,” he said.

Most natives and former natives would wonder what happened to the place.

How did Lance do at the Tour pre-EPO/blood boosting days when he was with Motorola? That pig didn't fly, did it?

Strangely, being Motorola team leader and GC rider he was incongruously shepherded around and tutored by Phil Anderson to 1994.

Even so the pig could only fly to a best place of 36th on GC with Motorola in the TdF's with all other starts being DNF's.

Maybe one day Phil Anderson will reveal all on the main contributing factor why he left Motorola and retired in 1994.

I look forward to a number of riders who retired around then discussing what the saw. Wasn't it Lucho Herrara who said he knew it was time to get out when fat a***d riders were passing him on the climbs and had no business doing so?

No, it's about upholding a ban that Flicker for the repeated infraction of rules that Flicker is too stupid (or selfishly and willfully ignorant or dismissive of) to understand, and by which we all agreed to abide when we joined this forum.

That Flicker has to be "re-banned" is ample evidence of this stupidity. That you repeatedly fail to appreciate this, as well as the fact that the re-banning arises form yet another violation of those same rules (an attempt to circumvent a ban by creating a sock puppet), is another matter.

Why can't you give the whining a rest? At least Cobblestoned (apparently) respected his ban...

Don't count on it. Getting shunned for "spitting in the soup" carries over into retirement.

Besides, if the ex-rider/riders in question themselves took part in doping, what purpose would it serve them to reveal their antics?

Plenty of ex-riders who one could surmise have many tales to tell and they don't. Right now the ex-Gewiss and ONCE riders come to mind, but there are plenty of others.

I thought dopers had big heads not big butz.
Oh well, the clinic educates as usual.
We may need a big butz thread?
Greg had a nice set of glutes.
Geez, where's flicker when you need him lol.
Berzin had a big keester too now that you mention it.

If you want anecdotal circumstantial evidence why Motorola decided circa 1994, allegedly driven by team leader LA (according to sworn statements by Stephen Swart), to collectively join their competing teams in "preparing" for races look at this brief TT clip from the 1994 TdF - Indurain doing a quick catch and pass on LA, 1993 World RR champion.

"Getting to Aspen" has everything to do with being very rich. I guess this shows that just becaus you are rich, doesn't mean you are not a ******bag.

All the negative stereotypes about Aspen aside, though, everyone I’ve ever met there in the area has actually been really cool. These peeps were not rich, just locals working for a living trying to enjoy the lifestyle…. not even homeowners (which would explain the difference in their socio-economic status). I’ve climbed a 14-er there, snowboarded at all four ski-areas, and mountain biked and road biked there. Conversely, doing a road race near Grand Junction, the one guy from Aspen is our pack was a bossy *&^%$# telling us all how to ride (for his benefit) so we eventually dropped him.

My hypothesis: the types who would go to this talk in Aspen given by Lance are the rich types who want to be associated with a celebrity who is probably even richer than they are, they probably don’t pay attention to what he has done behind the scenes within cycling to perpetuate his image, and the people he has hurt. Maybe they are the types who wouldn’t care. I’ve never believed that you get to be rich in this world by being a nice person. There is something about Lance's "getting to Aspen" comment that rubs me the wrong way.... he bought his way in with money earned in dubious ways.

Good hypothesis.

Now how about the warm reception Lance received earlier in the week in Iowa?
Members of the Corporate AgriBusiness Elite?
Thats my bet.
