Then on the Angliru, Rog was 1:33 behind Kuss in GC. Yet when he attacked.. he was painted as the 'bad guy' whilst Vingegaard sat on his wheel & almost painted as the good guy defending Kuss - despite the fact there's no way Rog was taking the jersey there. So why wasn't Rog granted his stage win like Vingegaard the day before without a fuss? Why did the team (& social media) react in such a hypocritical manner? Who knows.
Because Kuss *** up. When Rogla attacked, it wasn't Vingegaard who followed him and left Kuss to suffer, it was Kuss who marked Rogla with Vingegaard on his wheel, and then when he couldn't keep up he was dropped by the front duo. Had he stayed put with the Bahrain riders, Vingegaard would have stayed with him and his GC wouldn't have been in danger.

Kuss GC wasn't in danger. Team orders you know.

Roglic comes off more as severely introverted and insecure/fragile than as a villain tbh. Maybe a bit whiny, similar to how Landa was portrayed in Movistar series. The only way they can make Jonas into the good guy is if they want us to believe he's intellectually challenged (or severely lacking in theory of mind).

Where I completely change my mind is Sepp. I've never noticed before how dorky he is!

Rogla was the real hero in that Vuelta (I'll get to the reasons 'why' shortly).

Firstly, that Visma propaganda documentary is a little light on details, namely about the time gaps (among other things). On Bejes, Vingegaard gained over a minute with his surprise attack (which Kuss & Rog didn't react to) before Rog decided to counter. If Rog hadn't moved & caused a reaction from Ayuso & Mas, Vingegaard would have taken the jersey right there & then. Then immediately after the stage, Kuss said in an interview the team's pre-stage plan was to go for the stage win with Rog (this version of events was conveniently later buried). It makes sense though since Vingegaard was given the Tourmalet a few days earlier. Vingegaard ignored that & lit the fuse.

Who knows.

Now even if people disagree with all of the above, the very obvious reason 'why' Rog was a literal hero in that Vuelta was... because he wanted to race & give people some entertainment. Vingegaard looked like he wanted to win 'by accident' in a sort of "oops, I didn't mean to take the jersey but whatevs I'll have it!" manner. Rog wanted to race. I think neutrals should respect that.

Eurosport commentators & social media demanded a procession into Madrid with Vingegaard & Rog babysitting Kuss all to the finish line with zero GC action. I mean... do these people even enjoy bike racing? It's a cr*p way to 'race' a third week in a GT. Imagine Adam Yates getting the yellow jersey in the Tour via a breakaway & then everyone telling Pog to babysit him to the win, it would be absurd.
Great summary.
I was more or less indiferent to Jonas, but since then I dislike him. He was a sneaky punk.

The story started after Jalavambre.

They had a reunion and Vingegaard wanted the team to just rider for Kuss until Madrid. Roglic didn't agree, because he wanted to compete.

So, after that, Vingegaard did what he had to do. He made sure he stayed in front of Roglic at the end of the Vuelta and showed Roglic that he is the new boss at Visma. If he wanted to win the Vuelta, he could had won.

After all, there's no heros in this story. All of them are villains, including Vingegaard.

I personally see no villain. I just see complexity :grinning: But I do see a production trying to produce a villain, in Roglic to make Jonas look better. But since it's so obvious they're trying to make Roglic into a villain it ends up making Jonas look either like he lacks a brain or like an even worse villain
It amuses me :joycat: #samenwinnen :joycat::joycat::joycat::joycat::joycat:

O M G the emotions!

Landa being the only hero here.

Peak emotions and Landa being a hero, i can agree with that, other actors in the story not to shabby either. All in all i feel we got a beautiful story, one for the ages. No matter on how long we would discuss the different angles, there would always be more to it than that. If you ask me it was a beautiful ending of the JV era. Best script writers couldn't come up with a better script if it would be a Hollywood blockbuster. Kudos to the team for saying it like it was, without sugarcoating or some fake drama.

It will be interesting to see progression of Simon. He used to be the "strongest" twin, Adam now at UAE and that days are long gone. Lets see if at Visma Simon can top Adam again.

How can they afford all these riders? I thought their budget was slim with Jumbo already. Is Visma stepping up now when they are the main sponsor? I see danish folk here referring to Bygma but that just a small sponsor or will they be replacing Lease a Bike when the tour starts?

Yates?! Wait? What?! Why? I thought someone said he would retire (which sounded bananas 🍌 but still why? Is he supposed to take up the Rogla mantle? Or simply be a domestique?

I think Visma is doing the right, I was talking to a bunch of cycling fans and we all agreed there were not enough blue kits..can't wait for Redbull..as Bora has already blended green and blue..

New kit, it's a bit less yellow than usual, which is good.

Will they keep the blue jersey post tour? Yellow was Jumbos color so they don’t have to use it even if it’s probably good for recognition.

Who is this Bart Lemmen dude? He's got pretty decent results this year for a backup domestique (2nd in tour of Norway, 10th in UAE tour, 5th tour down under, 2nd KOM Romandia) but he's 28 and never started a grand tour. It said he only turned pro in 2023. It all seems a bit strange.

Unbelievable that Kuss said that riders from other teams came up to him after the stage and told him that if his own teammates attack him again they will help him.
If Kuss really did say this he would go from one of my most disliked riders to the very top. What a puss.
