Tour de Belgique - May 26-May 30

Between May 26th and May 30th, it's the Tour !!

Here's the route:

26/05 Etape 1: Eeklo - Eeklo (156,6 km)
27/05 Etape 2: Eeklo - Knokke-Heist (162,7 km)
28/05 Etape 3: Knokke-Heist - Mechelen (192,2 km)
29/05 Etape 4: Contre-la-montre Herzele (16,7)
30/05 Etape 5: Herstal - Herstal (173,7 km)

No climbs in Flanders this year, only the cobble section in the Varentstraat, I think.

Everything will be decided in the Ardennes, queen stage: Herstal - Herstal with the Redoute (once) and the côte de Bois les Dames 1.3km with a maximum gradient of 14% on the top (3 times).

The côte de la Forêt 3.1km with 10% on the top. Was also on last year's route with a great rivalry between Albert and Boom.

The Barrage de la Gileppe, often on the route of the Ster Elektrotoer.

And the Mont Theux, which was in this year's Liège Bastogne Liège and several times in the Tour de France.

By the way, the route passes by Saint-Rémy, which is the hometown of former double Liège Bastogne winner and Merckx team mate Joseph Bruyère.

Gonna check out the performances by Niels Albert who was outstanding in last year's queen stage. Arch rival Boom couldn't drop him out, quite on the contrary. One of the best race I have seen last season !!

And for the first time the Fidea Team is invited but without Zdenek Stybar (surgery to remove a cyst :(), so led by Kevin Pauwels. And even the Sunweb.

Oh yeah also gonna check out the performances by a dear friend of mine in the Lotto Bodysol team. ;)

Are you talking about the Niels Albert that finished in the bus in the first two stages of the Tour of Belgium, so he would be fresh enough to have any chance in the Ardennes :D

What "Tour" are we talking about?

BELGIUM!!!! They're very proud of their HC.2 stage race. So that's why its "The Tour".
If Devolder does not impress he will not get a contract.
Hoping for Gilbert to take a couple of stages and the GC.

What are you talking about Echoes?

Albert didn't drop Boom either. In fact, Albert went into the attack earlier with Van Avermaet, de Waele and co (at around 40/35km) , and Boom closed a minutes gap on the final hills with only Dekker being able to follow, and dropping Serguei Ivanov and friends (Bakelandts) in the process

You talk like Albert dropped Boom somewhere, which never happened. He simply went in the attack when Boom was still watching Ivanov (mainly). What Boom did there was very impressive

OK That's what I was referring to. He didn't drop him but still he was back in front.

As a matter of fact I expected Boom to drop Albert at one point or another. He already had more experience in pro road cycling (though Albert was a very good roadie as a junior and U23) and, as you say, he was in the earlier break.

Don't worry, it's just humour, all right. Normally I'm provoking Frenchmen, that way. :D

This 2.HC has existed since 1908, mate. And before WWI, the best were riding it.

It was indeed very entertaining. This only shows that you don't need big climbs to make a race interesting (anyone seen the TDF the last 10 years?)

Exactly. And I would add, you don't need the best teams either (anyone seen ...?)

And I guess some should go and climb those hills, as well.

Tour of Belgium always has some interesting and highly watchable racing. For the overall I'm picking Rosseler, continuing to prove that he and Tiago Machado and Chris Horner are the real stars of RadioShack. Gilbert to take 2nd place and the Herstal stage win. Moerenhout gets 3rd.

Is there going to be any live coverage of this?

I'm wondering the same, mainly due to the fact that Sporza shows both of the races, the tour and the Giro in the same timeslot
