Probably One Pro if they go pro conti.

So both One Pro and NFTO are trying to move into the second division? It seems unlikely that there's room for both to succeed.

Von Hoff would probably lead NFTO/Aberdeen Asset and they can build a train from that along with grabbing a couple of attacking climbers and some lower tier classics guys. OPC would probably look to grab a sprinter and some guys to ride in breaks. They should be able to grab some invites to the classics and maybe score some week long stage races.

Both teams have riders who are clearly good enough to move up. NFTO for instance have Von Hoff, Bibby, Dunbar etc. But they also have a lot of riders who aren't as talented and probably wouldn't get near a pro contract otherwise. And they'd need to expand their rosters anyway. In terms of a "British" identity, if that's important to the sponsors, there isn't a limitless of supply of British riders who are good enough. Two "promoted" teams would be fishing in the same pool.

That's not really the trickiest part though. PCT budgets are a lot higher than CT ones, there's a minimum wage, various licence obligations, more travel to races abroad. It seems to me that it would be a pleasant surprise if there's enough currently untapped British sponsorship available to sustainably pay for two new PCT teams. And if there is sponsorship for it, those sponsors might be better advised to combine efforts.

Don't get me wrong though. I'd be happy to be wrong.

I think ONE Pro Cycling would find it hard to stamp their own identity on a merged team. They have some kind of membership gimmick for the middle aged weekend warriors but clearly that's part of their brand and goodwill so simply to partner with a bigger sponsor might not suit their identity. But I agree with you. Looking at both rosters, if I was being generous I would take Bibby, Dunbar, Sam Harrison, Von Hoff, McEvoy, and Rob Partridge from NFTO and George Atkins, Bellis, Bialoblocki, Jon Mould and Chris Opie from ONE, which still leaves ten or more places for better riders. If they signed some of Cummings, Doull, McLay, Blythe, Edmondson, Hart, and James Shaw from Lotto, that would be the basis of a pretty good team.

I sometimes wonder where the likes of Tennant and Clancy would be now if they had pursued the road. A pro conti team might help promising young riders who slip through the cracks of British Cycling, eg Blythe, by offering them a decent career at a good level between British Cycling/Sky and slumming it with one of the various continental teams..

I have a feeling that OGE's marquee signing is a Basque rider. They will probably announce Txurruka at the same time. So Nieve could be a possibility.

I thought they'd already announced him.

Nah

It's a verbal agreement. Contract hasn't been signed yet. As soon as it is signed, they will make it official.

Like I say, I can't see them signing 1 basque rider. It doesn't make sense. Txurruka needs a mate.

Dunbar for Pro conti? He's only going to be 19 next year!

Wouldn't be anything new in cycling. Mohoric was in the WT at the age of 19.

A lot of nobodies in both teams. Merging would still leave plenty of room for new riders. But then again they probably shouldn't since British teams always seem to be on the brink of collapse or else being merged into other teams and losing their identity - eg Bora-Argon's only legacy of having been merged with Endura two years ago is having the same number of British riders as Cult Energy, MTN or BSE - one.

You can add Caja Rural

Mohoric was already one of the best U23 rider and won the WC. What Dunbar did outside of Ireland??

Unzue : G. Izagirre, Intxausti and Malori are leaving the team.
Last two are not going to sky apparently.

So G.Izagirre to Sky . Intxausti? To replace Trofimov at Katusha?
Surprising to see Malori going. Could he be the last Orica signing? Tinkoff?

This. The end of June he said he was going to stay at Movistar, or at least wanted to stay.

Where did nuvolablu find the Unzue statement?

There still ain't no official agreement on Sky & Landa. Might it be there either something has gone wrong or Sky really tries to buy him out already for the Vuelta?

Intxausti was meant to leave Movistar to become Landa's super domestique. Couldn't it be they'll finally both sign elsewhere!?

If so, which team could it be? Cofidis looks for a new leader for the Spanish races, right!?

The depature of Porte was announced immediately after August 01, but yet there's no word on Landa. Yes, we got reports he has signed a two year deal and Oleg's claim Sky is killing the business. But regarding both Izagirre brothers and Intxausti it seems like those gossip talk hasn't been fruitful, so far.

Surprised to see Malori leave Movistar, he was a good fit there :(

Orica would be a solid fit, there TTT squad would be pretty good :D

Still secretly hoping that Movistar snatch Landa away from Sky, but that's just me. :D

Intxausti not going to Sky relieves me too, i would like to see him have more of a free role on a smaller team, but let's just see what happens.

Nearly winning an U23 Nations Cup in france. He was out there for nearly 200kms solo. He then was congratulated by Eddy Merckx.

Still, even Mohoric was too young to be in the WT at 19.

It was reported on Twitter from a columnist of the "Diario de Navarra", a source seemingly close to the team, Unzué also mentioned there that he wants to reduce the number of riders from 28 of 25, so it's not going to be a lot of signings but hopefully, given who leaves the team, some high quality.

Might not yet have the I's dotted and T's crossed I'd guess there far along but not yet quite there. Also Eisel is talking to a french team and would be a useful addition to Demare's train.

Sky haven't announced any signings yet. Kwiatkowsi is apparently done as well but no news there either. I, like you, am hoping that there will be a happy surprise and Landa signs for Movistar but in all honesty I think he will end up at Sky.

There it is, the first new signing for Movistar.

It's Jorge Arcas from Lizarte, as a neo-pro.

I don't really know much about him. Movistar says he has won "10 races in 2 years in the spanish amateur scene".

In addition, he confirmed that Gadret will also not return and Lastras plans on ending his career.

Landa?

I think Intxausti would pretty much be a marquee signing for Orica.

The transfer of Alex Peters from SEG Racing is a done deal. At least PCS has him under contract at Sky for next year and his team have also tweeted it.

Because Landa working for Quintana and getting his own chances is so much better than Landa working for Froome and getting his own chances?
